Windows 10: CR2 RAW Images Distortion in Windows photo viewer

Windows Photo Viewer is distorting my raw (CR2) photo files

Hello,

I've seen lots of posts about Windows not being able to view raw or CR2 files, however that is not the problem I'm having. My problem is when I open the raw files, the standard Windows 10 photo viewer is distorting the image. When I first open it, it will
look normal for about 2 seconds, and then once it fully loads, the photo gets distorted. The distortion is always something with the colors, in which the hues change slightly and the photo resolution becomes more grainy, and in certain cases, the photo will
also become stretched. I can't seem to find any other comments on people having this same issue as everyone else's seems to be that they can't view the files in the first place.

Set Windows Photo Viewer as default to open photos

how do I restore full default for window photo viewer so it operates as it did in windows 8.1. ie from any photo folder any image i.e RAW CR2, Jpeg Tiff etc.

I have managed to get most Jpeg images to open in this viewer but CR2 still open in the new viewer, however my camera is set to make one raw and one Jpeg I have found if I open a Jpeg image first then I can move back to the RAW CR2 image in photo viewer.

| would prefer for my purposes to open all images in photo viewer and then move to Photoshop

OK I got this fully working.

To view only .jpg files in folder containing jpg and camera raw

1. In File Explorer, navigate to folder containing photos that you wish to view.
2. In File Explorer, type *.jpg in the search box. You will then see all your jpeg's with the camera raw files absent.
3. Click on any file in the search results, to start Photo Viewer.

To view only camera raw (.cr2) files in a folder containing jpg and camera raw

1. In File Explorer, navigate to folder containing photos that you wish to view.
2. In File Explorer, type *.cr2 in the search box. You will then see all your camera raw files with the jpeg files absent.
3. Click on any file in the search results, to start Photo Viewer.

It really is that simple. No registry edits needed. *chuckle
