Windows 10: Crackling sound when playing music

I heard crackling sound when playing music on Chrome, Edge browser, even I plugged in headphone I still heard that sound. Except playing music on local disk, I didn't hear that. By the same time, my laptop has worked slower than before since the issue appeared. I tried updated drivers but it didn't work. Does anyone know how to fix this? Where does the issue come from?I'm using HP Laptop PC 15-eg0000 172Z7AV. Windows 10 version 21H1 OS Build 19043.1110Thanks everyone.

Crackling/Popping sounds on Windows 10

I understand that you are getting crackling sound while playing back music in Windows.

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps:

Method 1:

Let’s run the audio playback troubleshooter and check if that helps. Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter.

• Click on the search icon below and type
  Troubleshooting.
• Then click on the Troubleshooting on the top of the Window.
• Under hardware and sound, click or tap troubleshoot audio play back.

Method 2:

Download and install the drivers in Windows compatibility mode.

• Download the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right-click on the driver and click on ‘properties’.
• Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select operating system from the drop down.
• Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

Sound crackling, clicking etc. when playing sounds


I'm having a similar issue too. It started back in November. I started hearing electric crackles while listening to music. Sometimes they lasted for some seconds, other times they were almost non stop. Sent the laptop, as ASUS laptop, to be repaired. They changed the Wifi card, but as soon as I turned on the laptop the problem was still there. I tried uninstalling the Realtek HD driver and replace it with an older one, it seemed to lower the amount of crackles. Right now I am using Microsoft's High Definition Audio but sometimes I can still hear some weird noises. They almost sound as the sound you hear when you plug or unplug your headphones into the jack. I tried all the solutions suggested in this thread but that still seems to happen. On some headphones it is more noticeable than with others.

LatencyMon shows this. I already googled about the USBPORT.sys but this seems to be an issue which is more related to Windows 7.
