    Crashes caused by AV?

I have recently noticed my PC has been restarting over night, sometimes during the day and was wondering what could be the cause.
I have checked the 'reliability history' report and i have seen that on quite a few occurrences it has been at the same time my AV has updated.
Ive attached a screenshot showing one days instance but it has happen on several.
The times have been within a minute however sometimes the time of the AV update has been after the restart so im really not sure.

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

    :)

Windows Explorer crashes randomly caused by ntdll.dll and windows.storage.dll

The "Classic Shell" Startbutton made these problems at my computer after update to win10.

After uninstalling there where no more crashes of the explorer.exe

  3. Windows Explorer crashes randomly caused by ntdll.dll and windows.storage.dll

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

With the issue description, I understand that Windows Explorer is crashing frequently after installing Windows 10 on the computer. I will certainly help you in getting this fixed.

I appreciate your efforts towards resolving the issue.

If you could help me with more information, I would be able to provide you more effective solutions

    • Do you have any security software installed on the computer?

The issue might be occurring because of any software conflict or corrupt user account. Please follow the below mentioned steps and check if the issue resolves

    Method 1:

Disable Anti-virus software because it might be creating some software conflict.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install
other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

If the issue still exists, try method 2

    Method 2:

You may check the same issues with the new user account.

Try these steps to create a new user account and check if it fixes the issue. Refer to the steps below to create a new User Account:

    1. Go to Settings.

    2. Choose Accounts and then select Other User Accounts towards the left.

    3. Select Add an Account.

    4. Enter a user name and hit Next.

    5. Click on Finish.

    6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

    7. Check if issue persists.

In addition to this you may also try to update the
BIOSof your computer. For more information you may visit the computer manufacturer’s website or contact them.

    Note:
Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring
of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Hope this information is helpful. Please write back to us if you need any further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.

Random restarts could well be due to hardware problems. Suggest you run some hardware diagnostics - memory tests.

    Also check your disk:
Download and run Hard disk sentinel (trial) and post a screenshot of its GUI
    - and file system
Run chkdsk c: /scan and post a screenshot of the summary result

To see when your PC was last rebooted, you can simply open up Event Viewer, head into the Windows Logs -> System log, and then filter by Event ID 6006, which indicates that the event log service was shut down—one of the last things that happens before a reboot.

You can then see if those correlate with anything else- including your Reliability History. If so examine the report shown by clicking the red X's.

    Thanks for the reply.

I cant get the Run chkdsk c: /scan command to work, the screen pops up for a millisecond then goes away.

Attached screenshot of Sentinal all looks good gives 100%

There was 20 instances of Event ID 6006
The only things they seem to collate to are the Windows Defender updates

    Good.. it's

    >chkdsk c: /scan

Run is just an English verb saying that's what to run.

    Run RAM tests- e.g.
    MemTest86+ - Test RAM Windows 10 Tutorials

Compare your PC crashing by leaving it 'long enough' in
    a. Safe Mode
    b. a clean boot state

When it restarts, does it appear to shut down normally or suddenly?
Do you get the event id as above reported when it restarts?

    Crashes caused by AV?

    Sorry maybe i wasn't clear.

I open the 'Run' box and type in chkdsk c: /scan.
Then a screen pops up for a millisecond and goes away so chkdsk does not seem to be running.
Unless im doing something wrong here?

Will run RAM test tonight overnight.

    Here is the log attached.

Try running the chkdsk in an administrative command prompt window, like this:

    Crashes caused by AV? [IMG]

It's probably completing, but you can't tell because the cmd prompt window closes as soon as the task is complete.

    Perform the following steps:
    1) Make sure that there is no over clocking during the troubleshooting process
    2) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    3) sfc /scannow
    4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    5) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

This may take hours so plan to run it overnight.
    a) Please make sure you use the Memtest86+ version 5.01 with the link below.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
The testing is done not by time but by passes.
    The more passes the better.
There are a significant number of false negatives if fewer than 8 passes are made.
A false negative is a test pass when there is malfunctioning RAM.
There is 8 GB of RAM on the computer.
    Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours /GB RAM
Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.
Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM each for 8 or more passes.
    b) When Memtest86+ has completed 8 or more passes use a camera or smart phone camera to take a picture and post an image into the thread.

    Crashes caused by AV?

    1) For Ccleaner un-check:
    a) Memory dumps
    b) Windows log files

    2) For startup and recovery system failure un-check
    a) automatically restart

    3) The gigabyte website displayed the computer BIOS for Vista: FA
Was the computer's operating system upgraded from a much older version of Windows?
The suggested BIOS for Windows 7 64 bit is F2
There is no suggested BIOS for Windows 10.
