Crashing during games or general web browsing

I dont know whats causing these issues but i do know the time of crash was surrounded by a lot off errors and a critical being the unexpected shutdown around the time of the crash. I have a Ryzen 7 5700x on a msi b450 tomahawk max, 32g of gskill trident z ddr4 3200mhz ram, msi 1660 super twin frozr 7, all powered by an rm850 power supply. Before when i had issues with random shut downs it was becuase my advertised 3600mhz wasnt stable oc for my ram even tho it was the xmp they just arent compatible, whats different this time is i actually got everything in my computer plugged in and wired co

    :)

    all games crash!

    I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
    What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

    GPU for web browsing, developing?

I owned a 10-year old laptop with Core2 Duo chip and Radeon HD 4650 GPU, running Windows 7 Pro. I was able to use Chrome or Firefox with 100+ tabs open and have very few problems or glitches.

Now I run a newer laptop with a Core i5-4310U chip, no GPU, running Windows 10 Pro. I regularly have memory issues, causing Chrome to crash. It generally is preceded by a "blackout" screen, like this: (blackout screen example)

Both have the same 8 GB RAM. I do zero gaming. I do a lot of developing -- 100+ web tabs, VS Code, Slack, Android Studio, database IDE, running node and python in the console.

I am looking to buy a new, more powerful laptop with at least 16gb RAM. The 2 biggest differences between the 2 older machines are Win 7 vs 10 and GPU vs Integrated Graphics. I assume a dedicated GPU is a must. My question is threefold:

    • is the lack of dedicated GPU likely the cause of the crashes?
    • what GPUs do not have "regulators" like nVidia Optimus, which seems to only allow the GPU to work with specific applications -- with web browsers not one of them (according to an email exchange w/ Nvidia support a few years ago)
    • or are the crashes most likely due to a much higher level of graphics/ads/video and typical web pages, not really an issue with the GPU capabilities, there's just too much to decode

Some people state "integrated GPU is fine for web browsing, GPU is only for gaming/CAD/video editing" -- I do none of these, but my graphics don't seem to be capable of keeping up. Thank you for your help.

    BSOD MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION - Browsing, Gaming

    Hello,

I'm at my wits end with this system, hope I can get some help or directions on what's causing this!

Just reformatted my computer and replaced the old SSD (which had the OS) drive to eliminate OS or old SSD error but I'm still getting these error codes which popped up only a few weeks ago.

From my week-long observation it has occurred:

    1. during gaming (many times, specifically HOI4)
    2. during web-browsing (ironically looking at info pertaining to these crashes)

    • Ran the minidump through BlueScreenView which reports that hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe were crashing, but apparently that doesn't reveal the underlying cause.
    • Yesterday I loaded the default states on my mobo as many articles pointed to overheating CPU or misconfigured BIOS, yet still crashed (#2).
    • Ran Intel's processor tester IPTD and all passed.
    • PSU is a Seasonic X650W 80+Gold just shy of a year old
    • Memtest ran yesterday, reported no errors.

Was thinking of running a suite of stress-tests to see if I can replicate or induce a crash but the web-browsing crash (attached log as it happened) is baffling.

Would appreciate and help or guidance, thanks guys!

    Best regards,

    Will
