Create and separate access on user accounts

    Hi folks!

I have Windows 10 Professional on a laptop.

Is there a possibility to separate accounts from each other as well as installation of programs, folders etc.? in a way that the programs/folders etc. only belong to one account and are not accessible from outside from other accounts etc..
I do not want other accounts be able to see certain things, e.g. programs or folders that contain private data like passwords or any other type of sensitive data? Sometimes at the university you have to work on one laptop and I do not want anybody to see any data of my account.
I do not want other accounts e.g. a guest account to have access to special installed programs.
Some installers ask if you want to install that program for your OWN USER or for all. But is the program then REALLY INVISIBLE and UNTOUCHABLE for other accounts?
I thought about something like the schools or universities do. they separate each account from each other. maybe with permission policies etc.? I have read about user folders, but then you need redundant installations, right?

How does one accomplish all of this?

    • At the moment I have a personal account for myself and an administrator account I activated.
    • The admin account still has no password set, I was warned by Windows that I could be locked out of my laptop if I set it. That's why I still did not set it. Can I do it?
    • I have already installed programs. Do I have to uninstall an re-install them for my intent?

    Appreciate your help, thx!

    :)

    Cannot access shared network drive

Personally, I wouldnt use Everyone. If anyone hacks into you, they have full access to everything and can demolish everything on your raid. I would rather set up accounts and access separately for each person. That way, I know who did all that damage. In the end with a little extra work, I feel more secure by using Authenticated Users.

    If this helps.
step 1 create non-microsoft account and without email and address without admin rights
step 2 share a drive or folder to specific user account (if Everyone is listed, remove it)
step 3 set security > add Authenticated Users (if more than 1 account) or add specific users
step 3a remove Everyone from list
step 3b uncheck full control and write for all items listed except SYSTEM and Admin account.
step 4 right click Start > Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders > Shares ... to verify settings and change anything else. You can also see the number of connections to each share here.

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

    Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
