How to Create Custom MSC in Microsoft Management Console in Windows

administrative tools (snap-ins) that you can use to administer networks, computers, services, and other system components.

You can add one or more snap-ins you want to a Microsoft Management Console, and save it as a custom MSC file. When you open this MSC file, it will always open with the added snap-ins how you last saved it.

The settings below will be remembered when you save your custom MSC console, and each time you close it afterwards.
    • View (menu bar) settings
    • Column widths
    • Default opening location/position
    • Window size
This tutorial will show you how to create a custom MSC file with added snap-ins in Microsoft Management Console (MMC) that will always open how last saved in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

    Here's How:

    1. Press the Win+R keys to open Run, type MMC into Run, and click/tap on OK to open a Microsoft Management Console.

*note If you wanted to add or remove snap-ins to an existing custom .msc file, then open it instead.

    2. Press the Ctrl+M keys, or click/tap on File (menu bar) and click/tap on Add/Remove Snap-in. (see screenshot below)

    13. If you like, you can Quick Launch, or move this .msc file to where you like for easy use.

*note If you should ever no longer need or want this custom .msc file, you can safely just delete it.

    That's it,

Local Group Policy editor window size settings not saving, please help

Hi, I see the same. There are 3rd party tools which can manipulate window sizes e.g.
Autohotkey (free scripting), Actual Window Manager (not free).... but I doubt you wish to explore those.

This may be of interest (I've only noted it, not tried it):

  3. Microsoft Management Console Stopped working

    Hi,

A Microsoft Management Console (Mmc.exe) error might have been caused by a corrupted system file.
MMC.exe is a Microsoft created file that is built-in to every version of Windows since 2000. For us to identify the root cause of this issue, we suggest that you run the
Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM)and
System File Checker (SFC) tools. These tools
scan your system files and to repair missing or corrupted system files. Follow the steps given on this article:

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
. It is stated on the article that you'll need to run DISM tool prior to running SFC tool.

Let us know how it goes.

Can't say I've seen this before but I would suggest installing all the latest updates if you can.

Device Manager error - Microsoft Management Console has stopped working

If i attempt to open Device Manager it stops working with an error - "Microsoft Management Console has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.". No
    solution is available.

I have followed suggestions given elsewhere to (i) perform an SFC scan - no problems found - and (ii) create a new user - the error recurred for the new user.

Is there anything else I can do to get Device Manager working?
