Windows 10: Create System Restore Point shortcut in Windows 10

The script in the .zip download from step 5 has now been updated so the shortcut will work in XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10. *Smile

 

Grrrreat! while the existing script saw no problems on 10 I still have the 7 side to worry about! *Biggrin Ran into this with the Andrew uploaded there.





Next time I am in 7 or when I reboot the remote case I can run the updated version on 7 to double check on your update there. Did you know I hardly ever use them?! I might just happen to need one about once a year after trying something out and that is when the shortcut would be quite handy over the default points

That will be good! I still have the one from SF if needed but this one offers the confirmation message and will now be a shared file between both 10 and 7. You can't top that any! *Thumbs

Just confirmed the change remotely by the way when also changing the boot order to see 7 made the default which will be changed back later again but to simply confirm that the change you made does work.





The yellow marks point to the folder used for storing anything system related as well as the download itself with the message right there when tried.

Well at least you have one confirmation it works on 7 as well as on 10! *Wink With the dual boots going between Insider builds and 7 Pro on one machine and the TH2 and 7 Ultimate on the main I think those extra points will still be needed!

 

Update/edit: Solved why the script was returning service not on error. Have to turn on System Restore again after upgrading to Win 10, which I did this evening. Btw, this Instant Restore Point looks exactly the same as the script created by the dearly beloved and missed Karen (Karen's Power Tools - I also use her Reboot and Poweroff).

Karen did some great work, but the script here is original by me. I wrote it back in 2008 and just updated it here.

Any progress on setting System Restore Points via Task Scheduler?

I've just been doing some reading and it seems that many users are still having trouble with this.

Apparently Windows will NOT automatically set an SRP until 7 days from the previous one.

Or is that just a system weakness in W7?

I find it still too buggy to rely on using a task for restore points, and prefer to manually create them as needed.

Cant you just schedule the start of one of these scripts?
What I am currently doing is
Under actions, enter wscript as program/script and the script location eg: "C:\Create Restore Point\CreateRP-Success_Message.vbs" (with quotes) as arguments.
