Windows 10: Created LAN network between two computers using crossover cable

Hello Microsoft, We have two PCs without network connections. We need them to be connected to a LAN network so they can share files with each other. For the setup, I'm using the "Crossover" cable and those IP configuration settings.PC1IP: 192.168.1.10Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0Default gateway: 192.168.1.1PC2IP: 192.168.1.20Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0Default gateway: 192.168.1.1This setup works well for two machines with the same OS. crossover cables / adapters

Unless your computer or LAN card is older that 10~15 years you will not need a crossover cable. LAN cards now have whats called auto-sense.

If you are not going to use a router you will need to make sure that the computers have the same Workgroup name, Then just open Network in file Explorer and you should see the other computer's files and folders if you have any that are shared.

The reason they can connect is due to APIPA which provides an address that is guaranteed not to conflict with routable addresses.
