Creating a bootable Win. 10 from a Mac

I want to have a Win 10 {W} iso on a flash drive as it looks like I'll have to delete W to install Linux Peppermint. I've downloaded the W on a Mac and some AI stated that the easiest way forward is to copy it to a flash drive in the W laptop and then use Rufus to create a bootable OS on another flash drive in NTFS format. AI seems generally near useless with anything complex related to IT - so does it seem plausible. Apparently it can be done on the Mac but only in FAT 32 which requires extra software to split the ISO to fit the 4GB limitation. It would be much more attractive to be able to j

    Multi-bootable USB

Hey guys from TPU, couldn't find any specific thread pertaining to the question asked on title. As mentioned, I'm trying to create a bootable USB, but with many specifics boots available.

I've been trying to create one with multiple boot device including one that enables me to run Windows 10 directly on the USB Thumb Drive but to no avail.

The list of bootable images i'm trying to create are

    1. Windows 10 (A full OS running from thumb drive)
    2. Windows 10 ISO (Bootable disk image for fresh install)
    3. MemTest86+

Have tried YUMI or UUI from the website USB PenDrive Linux but as this is my first time, i don't know how am i screwing up or am doing it right.. Anyone got a rough idea on a step by step guide? Thanks!

You can create a bootable copy on your Mac using unetbootin for Mac:

    UNetbootin - Homepage and Downloads

Download the Windows 10 ISO in macOS:

Download Windows 10 ISO Files Directly Using Your Web Browser

Select the Disk Image radio box, choose ISO, click the browse button (represented by an ellipsis …), browse to the Windows 10 ISO file then click
Open. Chose the medium from the Type list box—in this case, your USB drive. Click in the drive list box then select your USB thumb drive. Click OK to create the bootable copy.

Once your bootable copy is created, you can proceed to configure your BIOS to boot from the install media then install Windows 10:

How can I create a Windows 10 bootable USB installer on Mac?

Actually you can use the command line to create a Windows 10 bootable usb on Mac. I'll walk you through a pretty straightforward method that has worked for me in the past.

First up, you're going to need a couple of things: a USB drive with at least 8GB of storage (make sure there's nothing on it you need, as this process will wipe it) and the Windows 10 ISO file. You can download the ISO directly from Microsoft’s website. Just make sure you choose the version that matches the license you have or plan to use.

Once you've got your USB drive and ISO file ready, here’s a simple way to do it:

    1. Open the Terminal: You can find it in Applications > Utilities. Terminal can seem a bit daunting if you're not used to it, but it's super powerful and perfect for this task.
    2. Use the diskutil command: First, plug your USB drive into your Mac. Then, in Terminal, type diskutil list and press Enter. This will show you a list of all the storage devices connected to your Mac. Find your USB drive in the list (it's usually named something like /dev/disk2 but it can vary). Make a note of the disk number because you'll need it for the next step.
    3. Format the USB drive: You'll use the diskutil command again, but this time to format your USB drive. Be very careful with this step to ensure you're formatting the correct drive. The command will look something like this: diskutil eraseDisk MS-DOS "WIN10" GPT /dev/diskX, replacing X with your disk number. This command names your drive WIN10, but you can name it whatever you like.
    4. Mount the ISO and Copy the Files: After downloading the Windows 10 ISO, double-click it to mount it on your desktop. Then, open the mounted ISO and copy all its contents to your freshly formatted USB drive. Depending on the size of the ISO and the speed of your USB drive, this could take a bit of time.
    5. Eject the USB Drive: Once the copy is done, make sure to eject your USB drive properly by right-clicking (or Ctrl-clicking) its icon on the desktop and selecting Eject.

And that's pretty much it! You should now have a bootable Windows 10 USB installer, created right from your Mac. This method has been the least headache-inducing for me and doesn’t require any additional software. Just plug the USB into your separate PC, boot from it, and you should be on your way to installing Windows 10.
