  1. Creating System Image in Windows 10

Regarding backups in Windows 10 based on the RECENT responses from the Microsoft Community to me regarding my concern:

Ways of doing System Image: Control panel to Backup and Restore (Windows 7) to Create a System Image. Or Search for File history and select Create a System Image.

My Findings: Both ways of doing system images yield the same results, but I found they do not copy the software installed by the user when I restored using these backups. After creating the system Image, I uninstalled couple of software which did not get reinstalled when I restored from the system images so created.

What I wanted to have that all the software installed by the user should be gotten reinstalled when the computer is restored from the system image, which did not happen per my check. After resetting the computer user is faced with reinstalling those software which takes considerable time. So my conclusion is that these backups are of no use.

I had owned Samsung laptop with Windows 7 and Samsung has their own software which used to save the software installed by the user. But that computer never needed to be reset. Now with Windows 10, computer fails and need to be reset -is Windows 10 so bad or the manufacturers of PC are poor!

So Microsoft should have created backup option that copy all the software including those installed by the users to save time if ever the computer needs to be reset.

I read that couple of Microsoft Community participants noted that Microsoft is thinking of scrapping these backups from Windows 10 or they should help users by providing means that the users do not have to manually reinstall software installed by the users after resetting the computer.

Note that I am being 86-yr person still active in this field.

    Thank you for your help.

    :)

  2. Help, cant create windows image

    Hello there, @fullinfusion!

It seems like some sort of an OS confusion has happened with your secondary WD Black and I'm sorry to hear about that. *Frown Creating System Image in Windows 10 :(
Maybe re-formatting it would help indeed as the community already mentioned. I'd suggest to take a look at this step-by-step how to partition and format an HDD: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=PYCoid
Keep in mind that this will wipe clean the drive, so you should backup all important data from the drive somewhere else.
I noticed from the screenshots that your HDD appears as Disk 0, this means that it's plugged in the primary SATA port where the SSD (as an OS drive) should be. Actually it is possible that because of this Windows cannot create the image there. Swap the ports of the SSD and the HDD, this might help as well.

Keep me posted. Hope this helped! *Smile Creating System Image in Windows 10 :)

  3. Creating a System Image backup - keeps looping

    Hi,

Thank you for giving us an opportunity to assist you with the query.

I understand the inconvenience caused, now that you have me with you let me take care of this.

The system image is exactly like the mirrored copy of the Operating System which contains the configuration of the Operating System. When you create backup system image your windows 10 comes back to the same position at when the image was created earlier.

As an initial step, I suggest you to make sure that the services required for backup to run successfully is enabled. Refer to these steps:

    • Press Windows + R
keys, type services.msc and press Enter.

    • In the services window, locate the services
      File history service
and the Volume shadow copy service and check if they are running.

    • If they are not running, right-click and select
Start to manually start the service.

    • Check if you are able to create a backup now.
Step 1: I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article created by

    Andre Da Costa
    and check if it helps.

Step 2: If the issue still persists, I suggest you to boot the computer in a clean boot state and then check.

Booting the computer in a clean boot state can reduce software conflicts and help identify the root cause of the issue. You can refer to this article for more information:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, reset the computer to start as usual. Refer to the step
How to set the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting under more information.

    Hope it helps.

Let us know the status, we are glad to assist you further.

    Help, cant create windows image

Use Windows AIK and maybe a little command line action. *Toast :toast:

Edit: I should add there's quite a few steps, but there are guides that explain this with less detail to make it easier out there. It takes a little time, but you'll have a good image. Don't worry about cleaning it up if you're happy with it since you aren't creating a deployment image for other workstations.
