  1. credentials prompt on internet website only when on internal network.

Hi All, this problem is driving me to *Drink1

I have a user (Windows 10 Home) who works both in and out of the office on her Laptop.

We have a website that we use to handle all of our client files on a remote server. It only works on IE due to ActiveX controls it uses to open saved files on the computer.

When she opens a Word doc from this site at home or a public network (Starbucks etc), it opens up with no problems.

When she tries to open the exact same file while in the office on our internal network she gets prompted for network credentials.

Now here's the kicker: it doesn't matter what we do with the credentials, if we enter her correct credentials, or enter "Bobby" Pw r@ndOm or press cancel, it still allows the doc to open.

She is the only person who gets this (we have over 300 local and remote users) and per reports has been getting this since she had Windows 7, through Windows 8/8.1 to Windows 10.

For most users I'd just say suck it up since it's a personal computer, but this is the CEO's wife and a VP in the Company in her own right, so... *Banghead

Any ideas you can give, I'd be happy to try. I haven't even been able to find this problem replicated anywhere else.

    Solutions we've tried include:
-Site is added to Trusted sites
-Actually signing in with username and pw and "saving credentials"
-Clearing caches, saved credentials and re-logging in.
-Automatic login with current username and password (custom security settings Trusted Sites Zone)
-Allow all sharing on all network types
-settings/security changes given in numerous "similar" issue types on various Win forums including this one.

I still have the "nuclear option" of a complete wipe and reinstall of windows 10, but don't want to go there unless there's no other hope.

Help me Obi-Win10Forum, you're my only hope!

  2. Microsoft Edge doesn't remember secure passwords

This worked perfectly. Here are the steps to have Edge remember credentials"

    1. Open the website you want Edge to remember your credentials.

    2. Copy the domain only from the URL (www.example.com/stuff.stuff.stuff, just copy www.example.com).

    3. Open Interne Explorer

    4. Click settings icon, then choose Internet Options

    5. Click Security tab

    6. Click Trusted Sites icon

    7. Click Sites button

    8. Paste the URL into the text box next to the Add button, then click the Add button.

All done! when you open the site in Edge you will be prompted for credentials and the "Remember" checkbox is there. Check that and you will not see the prompt again.

credentials prompt on internet website only when on internal network.

Grab her laptop and do an inspection on it to see if she has made any changes. Also Tragic X can be blocked by certain routers. It should never be used for files. Traveling users should be using Office 365 or connecting back with a VPN that is not blocked by their home network.

It may include going to have someone look at her router/gateway or using TeamViewer if you use it for remote connections and look at the settings in her Gateway.

  5. Oh, you have it backwards: This only happens in our Corporate Office, (my location) where approx 100 other users have no such issue. At her home or "abroad" she has no problems with it.
She is here with the LT in house, we have all the security settings in place that are needed to make sure all the "TragicX" *chuckle controls work, the network is on DHCP, all the settings are in place and the firewall is off.

Believe me, if it were up to me we'd use something else, but this program is "Old Faithful" for our company and not so easily removed with about 30 years of use invested in it... (It has been updated with regularity over the years, but ActiveX is the one thing they can't get away from... that and IE).

But that's neither here nor there, since the issue isn't related to the network or the website it is something about the LT specifically when it is on our network.

To re-iterate in case it wasn't clear in the OP Out of 300+ computers accessing this same resource (website) this is the only one that has the problem:

Symptoms: Login to CompanyWebsite.com on IE click on link to open Word Doc:
    Windows prompts for Credentials:
    a. Enter correct network credentials; file opens. Close and try again, prompt again. (same doc, different doc makes no difference)
    b. "Cancel" credentials prompt; file opens. Close and tray again, prompt again. (same doc/different doc makes no difference)
    c. Enter BAD credentials, file opens. Close and try again, prompt again. (same doc/different doc makes no difference)
    d. Enter NO credentials and click "Okay", file opens. Close and try again, prompt again. (same doc/different doc makes no difference)

Use any other device in the Office or abroad with the same user account or different user account; No prompt at all.

Nothing backwards about this when you only have one user who is complaining about issues that no one else has. You pull the laptop, issue them one that is secured and set to report their use, ask to make sure that their home network or ISP is not the issue and then when you get their laptop back, you do a inspection to find out if there are any items that they have installed that they are not supposed to per the agreement that they signed, that can end up losing those privileges and possibly losing their jobs.

When users find ways around their employer's company property that they used to be able to treat it like their home computer, you have to make sure that they are not causing other issues where they leave the company open to an outside attack to any documents, etc, that the user may store on the laptop.

My wife's company changes out their laptops on a 2 year process and also if they suspect someone of causing problems that can open the company up to finding out internal information, even if the user is the one that is doing it. You take security very serious and you cannot play around.

  7. Bro, you literally have it exactly backwards.

    At home = ZERO PROBLEMS.
    At Starbucks = ZERO PROBLEMS
At Mom and Pops Bed & Breakfast in Alaska with Dial-up = ZERO PROBLEMS

At the Headquarters Office for my Company = Stupid annoying problem.

If this was Suzie-Q-User I'd just take the damn thing away and Fresh Install Windows 10, her Happiness be-damned, but this happens to be the VP Operations and Training (who also happens to be married to the Owner/CEO.)

(I did check the programs though just in case, nothing unusual there.)
