Windows 10: critical process died and system thread exception not handled

Ok so my computer keeps blue-screening with "critical process died", ive run every error program i can find and so far nothing.



I can replicate the error a few different ways, primarily if i run chkdsk on C: drive where windows is installed and if i try to install a program such as python x64.

In disk manager i have noticed that their is two EFI partitions with one of them not on the same drive as windows which is odd. Im not sure if this can cause such an issue but its still unusual. Previously windows had been installed on F: drive but i uninstalled windows on that drive.

In general this error doesn't happen unless im running chkdsk on C: or installing interpreter like programs and rarely if im scanning C: with antivirus software.


After the error happens and windows crashes, during reboot it crashes a second time, this time with "system thread exception not handled" after which it boots normally.

System thread Exception not handled,critical process died and bad pool caller BSOD

I lately upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.For the first few days,all was good and the system was running fine.Since the last two days,every time I start the machine,I get a BSOD which the system resolves by itself by restarting.

1.Critical process died

2.Bad Pool caller,

3.System thread exception not handled.

These are the errors I have got till now.

Steps taken by me:I installed the latest video card drivers[Intel and Nvidia] and checked for any corruption of system files using command prompt but could not find any.

Please note that Windows Memory Diagnostics has detected a bad RAM which will soon be replaced.

The System Thread Exception Not Handled error in Windows mostly occur due to incompatible or old graphics card drivers. System Thread Exception Not Handled error is often displayed along with the Blue Screen of Death

I suggest you to boot into Safe Mode environment and update your graphic drivers.

Method 1: Update drivers.

I suggest you to update graphic drivers and check if it helps. Follow the steps given below.

• Press Windows key + X key and click on
  Device manager.
• Search for Display Adapters.
• Right-click on the graphics
  card and click on Update driver software.

You may also download the latest graphic drivers from the manufacturer’s website and install them on your computer.

If the issue still persist, I suggest you to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check.



Method 2:



Follow the steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode.

• Download the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right-click on the installer and click on "Properties".
• Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select previous Operating System from the drop down.
• Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

• Which version & build of Windows are you running?

To find out what version of Windows you are running:

• Press the Windows Key + R.
• A box will pop up in the bottom left side of the screen. Type winver
  and then press Enter.
• Another box will open that will tell you what version of Windows you're running and what the build is. Please post both the version number and the build number.

• What are the troubleshooting steps you've done so far?
