    Critical Process Died -- totally locked out


    I set up a new HP laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed today. I got everything set up fine, with Windows Hello login and a PIN. After installing all my software and personal files, I went to shut down and saw there were updates to install.


    On restarting, the updates kept getting to 38%, then I'd get a blue screen error and the computer would restart. It would quickly get to 35% then at 38% would restart again.


    After a lot of troubleshooting using Microsoft Community Answers, I was able to get out of the loop. But on trying to log in to Windows, my Hello fingerprint was accepted but I was told I also needed to enter my PIN and that it had changed due to a security change and that I needed to reset it. Clicking the link to do so gave a "Just one moment..." message, then the system locked up.


    After several attempts, I tried to just shut down rather than try again. After this, the system locked me out entirely. Every attempted boot gives a "Critical Process Died" message, and troubleshooting methods all fail. The blue screen Troubleshooting options all say they cannot be completed.


    I have an appointment with a technician to try to fix this, but I'm wondering if there is any way I can do it myself. I can accept reinstalling Windows as long as I do not lose my personal files, but I have no install disk.

    Critical Process Died on windows 10 setup


    Ive just opened event viewer as you suggested but I cant seem to find any error that says "critical process died"

    I have attached a screenshot of the event viewer. I have scrolled to the bottom to where it first booted up.

    Ive downloaded the software you sent the link for but I'm not sure how to use it as nothing shows up when I load it.
