    Critical Process Died

I have a Dell XPS 8700 that will not boot. I get the blue screen with "Critical Process Died". It then tries to repair with no success. I have entered advanced options to boot in safe mode. Again no success. I ran sfc /scannow. Still nothing. Ran Dell diagnostics and all hardware passed.

This desktop came with Windows 7 originally. Then upgraded to Windows 10. Has been working with Windows 10. My friend told me that he saw a message about a driver recently. How can I get this PC to boot? Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

    :)

No, I have not performed a system restore. I did try a restore point but that failed.

Is there more than one restore point available? If so, try an older one as this would be the simplest and quickest way to fix this.
Otherwise you'll have to reinstall Windows 10. It will have to be a clean install or a parallel install since you can only do a Repair install if you can boot Windows 10.

    Windows 10 - Clean Install

Parallel install is the same except you don't format the drive. This installs another Windows 10 along side the current one, moving the old one into Windows.old. The advantage is all your data will remain so you can just copy it over to where it belongs once the install completes.

Only 2 restore points and both fail. Went ahead and did clean install and it seems to be working properly. I do have a question about drivers. Should I install all the Windows 10 drivers from the manufacture website or leave it alone? Device manager shows no issues.

I decided to install the 10 drivers from the manufactures site. I have read in my search that some say you don't need to and others saying you need to. I feel better using the 10 drivers since I have 10 installed. Everything seems to be functioning properly now. My next quest is to get a better understanding of 10 versions, builds, and updates. Seems different than the 7 I'm used to.

    Thanks Ztrucker for your assistance.
