Windows 10: Cumulate update stuck installing, forcing my laptop to 100% disc usage?

Title, It is trying to download 2021-01 Cumulative update for Windows 10 V 1909 for x64, among others, they are (KB4598229), (KB4535680), (KB4586878) and (KB890380).

I keep trying to manually download them with a standalone but it just ends the process early and says “Some updates were not installed” and basically nothing happens. I’ve tried to delete the update files on my C drive however some of them are “in use” and can’t be deleted. Any ideas?

CUP and Disc usage stuck at 100%

My CPU usage and Disk Usage stuck at 100% most of the time. I do not have much apps opened. I have i5 processor and 8 GB RAM. Already tried stopping search and superfetch from command prompt. It's not a permanent solution. Can anyone suggest please?

 

Laptop 100% disc usage on not even 10MB used

Hi guys, my laptop, both my old(i dont have that one anymore) and my new one, have disk usage around 100% for not even 10mb usage. I have no idea why this happens, I turned off Superfetch and Microsoft search index thingy... Steam was updating a game, said it uses 7.1MB disc space, then i go to task manager, shows about 14.8MB and full disc usage.
Any idea how to adjust it? I adjusted my virtual memory to see if it will change anything, but so far no luck. My laptop is a Lenovo Y50, has 8GB RAM and runs games fine, but when I am installing or doing things to update my disc usage goes 100% with 10MB minimum...

It seems very little MB takes up a 100% of the disc space, which I think is quite strange... Any help?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I started going through your list of suggestions.

I have switched off all background apps. I was horrified to see so many.

I then disabled windows update.

At that stage I thought I would check out disc usage on task manager.

Disc activity had gone down dramatically and in the performance tag activity was very low, it spiked from time to time if I did something on the PC but the speed on all activity was back to normal.

I thought I would leave things as they were and see if things stayed the same.

No problems at all until this afternoon I was trying to look at a file via windows explorer and got the message "not responding". A quick look at task manager and disc activity is 100% again. Everything slows down. I close down some screens and the desk
top turns black.

The only way I can get a display up again is "alt" + "tab". The task bar has disappeared. I decided to reboot but the only way I can do that is with the on'/off switch.

The PC reboots. I check that all the apps are still switched off and windows update is still disabled, Disc activity is still 100%.

As I type this disc activity has suddenly dropped. it keeps spiking to 100% but then reverts back to about 12%.

Is this normal or is there something else I should do.

Back to 100% now. How do I find out what is actually happening, what activity is the disc doing?

I am confused.

Any suggestions?
