  1. Cumulative update 5006667 - Crashes explorer.exe

We are seeing reports of machines with a critical error when installing the patch KB5006667 October 12, 2021— OS Build 18363.1854. Once installed, it seems after Teams is started or setup and running, explorer.exe crashes, restarts and crashes again. This happens over and over with no stopping. Initial troubleshooting shows it seems to be profile related; however, this has not been fully flushed. It affects both desktops and laptops. Any one else seen this issue? Any assistance on this issue would be great! ----------------------------------------------------

  2. Windows explore crash when searching

The tenforums link solved this issue for me.

The root cause is a Windows 10 bug where File Explorer crashes when long file names are included in a search result. The steps for the workaround are:

    • Open File Explorer
    • Click View > Options
    • Open the View tab
    • Check "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
    • Click OK

    Explorer crashing

Thanks Zat. I had never looked at event viewer and it had more info than I thought. Seems the problem was a second computer I was trying to network with. Unplugging the ethernet cable fixed the crashes. Explorer must have been looking in the wrong place I guess.
