Windows 10: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 KB3124262

This is what I found posted about this update on a social media page

Microsoft has focused on bug fixes, stability improvements and performance enhancements with this release.

I'm merely restating what Microsoft has said about Windows10's target market. Don't shoot the messenger, LOL. At any rate, Windows10 is so juvenile, I'm surprised that any Professionals, Advanced Users, etc.. would even have it on their system. It looks like a 6th grader designed the "Settings", as well as the EDGE browser.

Didn't I read here in the forum a couple months ago that Microsoft wants to remove the Control Panel from Windows10? If true, that would fall right in line with their new "dumbing down" methodology.

 

Opinions are just that, I'm fine with the new GUI.

I really don't see why MS can't be clear and obvious about what these Windows 10 updates actually address.

Transparency IS a good thing whether talking about Government or OS. *chuckle

I think a large part of consumers uneasiness about Windows 10, especially power users, but I know of PLENTY of
ordinary users that know enough want to see things explained. Honestly Microsoft hurts themselves because of
being closed mouth.

 

yeah I just don't see how a serious business would want Windows 10 on their machines with its mobile look and live tiles. Although I guess it's better than 8/8.1, I skipped right over that abomination. I couldn't believe they tried to force that metro screen over the traditional desktop.

 

Cumulative updates are always an adventure. I'll spend the next few days waiting for the settings changes to reveal themselves. Why do they always have to reset some settings back to Microsoft preferences? I think I must build a checklist of settings to check after an update, but even then I'd expect to be surprised.

 

After this update I checked every option and not one changed from before. This was not the case with previous updates, but thankfully is with this latest.

 

New update changes my Internet Options ......Display Mixed Content option.
I always have it "enabled".
It was changed back to "prompt" which is the default setting.

 

Just FYI, checked the SFC /SCANNOW on the .71 image and it still finds errors on opencl.dll as in earlier Builds/cumulative updates (the latest Tech Preview, however, has fixed this issue). A new file has joined the mix in CBS.log: profapi.dll. From what I can find online, this item seems to be browser related, possibly Chrome or Firefox. Very interesting... because DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth still returns "No component store corruption detected." I guess this will be fixed when the Redstone family of releases gets to the current branch, at the latest -- hopefully, earlier than that!

As far as the Opencl.dll problem, the ONLY way to see if it has been fixed, by MS is to run SFC /Scannow as this command is what removes one, and replaces the other with the one from MS. I don't believe this has been fixed by MS yet.

When I checked the file profapi.dll it is only found in my Windows folders, and seemed to be associated with Windows backup.

 

I can go to System Properties / Advanced tab / Environment Variables and edit them no problem even Path, even after this update.

 

Firstly, as it has been stated many times, by going "System Properties / Advanced tab / Environment Variables" route you get access to administrator's environment variables, not current user's environment variables. See the difference? The only GUI way to access current user's environment variables is "Change my environment variables" link in "Control Panel / User Accounts". There's no other way. And that link it is still dead.

Secondly, the bug in the new system PATH variable editor is as follows: if one hits "New" button to create a new entry in the path list and then hit "Browse" button to populate that new entry, the path one selected will NOT go into the new entry but instead will overwrite the previous entry (!?). This is the bug I was talking to. It existed from the beginning. It is still there.

(The extreme manifestation of this bug is when the PATH list is completely empty: the "Browse" button suddenly becomes dead. It is clickable, but does nothing at all.)
