just out of curiosity is update kb3081440 to sort out profile errors as i dont appear to have anything wrong in profile lists.

  3. It was KB3081441 and KB3081444 that messed things up, not 1440 and 1444.

Also, the failed system restore actually worked. I signed in after the 2nd failed restore and I was back to the point I was at when I upgraded to Win10 from Win7 earlier this month.

Windows update is downloading these two as well as KB2267602 (Windows Defender update). I am reluctant to allow the installation of 1441 and 1444 until I see from forum topics that this issue really is fixed once and for all.

My laptop is in working order again so I see no risk if these are the only 3 updates I don't have applied.

That means you may have either misspelt the path or used the invalid directory in to which the cab file was originally downloaded.

Did you create a new folder called c:\TempCab and put the cab in there?
If you do that then the command line is:
Code: DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\TempCab\all-windows10.0-kb3081440-x64_9644f810d969d34b3a1ac7c8f9aea71c0a9089bc.cab[/quote] Just copy and paste it into the command prompt (admin) EXACTLY as above, and it should work. *Smile

Yes exactly as you have there, created the TempCab folder in C:/ put the .cab file in it ,and i had exactly what you have there still got error 87 ,i will try copy paste yours to be sure though.

ok copy and paste worked and i got completed successfully (cant believe i had something wrong, checked over and over)
so kb 3081440 now shows as installed , unfortunately the cumulative update kb 3081444 kicked in again and has failed with the "undoing changes" message again.
il wait on fix but many many thanks for your help , i learnt a bit too.

I'm pretty sure this update hosed me, after installing it, upon reboot, my screen kept flickering as if a bad display driver was installed. I could not input my password, because the screen would flicker and reset back to the Lockscreen. Even on the two occasions when I was able to enter my password, it would not log me in, going straight back to the lock screen. I need to avoid installing this or delete it somehow after Windows installs it for me.

Well, as with Windows XP through 8.1, I need WAY more information, and I need to decide IF I will allow an update.

I will check out that tool. I can also get any needed, good, updates from the MS Catalog site. But I will need to know what they are. Also, I will have to keep my updates OFF until they release an update that returns specialized choices for updates and/or shutting off WU without having to shut off the service. Shutting off the WU service also hoses the Store.

  10. I had this exact same issue, and after much irritation, this tool helped me bypass the update until some kind of official fix is released.

  11. As my version is Windows 10 Home and there is no way of disabling automatic updates, and it keeps wanting to slam KB3081444 down my throat, I will be reverting to Win7 once my third system restore completes.

  12. Ah, I did not realize that it wouldn't work on your system. Best of luck!

Did you see "hotwheels47125" post # 23 above?

I tested it and the tool mentioned does indeed work with "Windows 10 Home". I was able to hide an update to prevent it from being automatically installed. I also tested the tools ability to restore that hidden update and the tool worked without issue. Good Luck!
