  3. So weird, mine was done in a jiffy! Strange how some users are experiencing long install times while others -- like me -- are 'fast and easy'!

    Cheers for the replies on that lads glad it wasn't just me. Wondering if it's something to do with older processors then. Been running Windows memory diagnostic overnifht (extended) and it's found no issues so far

    I hope y'all not running SSDs with your urge to clean up. Rather go with a larger size drive to always maintain enough free space so performance doesn't suffer and you're not wearing your drive down. I never clean up after updates or at all for that matter.

    • Using dcomcnfg, add SYSTEM (local launch and local activation) in Security Tab of RuntimeBroker i.e. {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47c8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
    • Using regedit, restore "NT Service\TrustedInstaller" ownership to the modified HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.... keys

    Cumulative Update KB3213986 Windows 10 Version 1607 build 14393.693

    I had trouble with this update. I need to remove it and re-install. How do I?

    Edit: This update would not install from the Widows settings page. To resolve the issue, I went to the Windows update catalog page. I searched for KB3213986, and found it. It did not a removal tab, so I re-downloaded it which took about 3 and 1/2 min. as opposed to the 50 plus min. on settings page. It took about an hour or so to install. And now all appears to be OK.

    All this hassle of downloading updates, but at least reading what changes or new things brings is irrelevant because practically it updates only things i don't use. I started to surf the web and quickly the screen froze and quickly thought that it has to be an update downloading and exactly that is, still at 94%.

    Could WSUS OFFLINE download this now? i use that application to save updates for future use in case i have to reformat or to use in another computer to try and avoid that Windows Update automatically download them, is slower and pron to error and hangs.

  11. My Win 10 Pro desktop took all of 9min to download, install, configure and re-boot. My Win 10 Home laptop, not so much. Took almost all of 1 hour to complete. Needed 3 re-boots in the middle just get the updates downloaded and installed. LOL

    My WinPro desktop and Winhome laptop took the catalog download and installed successfully. The non msaccount desktop had several sfc /scannow 'find and repairs' and the msaccount laptop had no errors. I downloaded and manually installed the Flash update and the Malicious tool monthly scan on both machines.
    Although the catalog download signaled it would be over 2 hrs to download in fact it was a little over an hour on my 5g connection. Within the auto update routine the download can be down to .4Kb a sec. which means the download goes on and on.
    This routine is an alternative which works for me.

    Cumulative Update KB3213986 Windows 10 Version 1607 build 14393.693

    I installed this update this morning and after reboot had a bit of a hang up--maybe a minute? I checked my event viewer out of curiosity and found 6 event code 63 warnings related to the WMI. Does anyone know if this is related to the update or a separate issue that just happened to occur right after the update?

    Thanks!

    I also had six WMI warnings immediately after the update reboot. I think it is related but I can't say if it caused a hang-up because my reboot occurred while I was asleep *Smile
