I've had a problem after this update reported here Can't Login - Further Troubleshooting Steps?

Does this update remove restore points since I had none to use when troubleshooting after the update?

Don't worry about it. Windows 10 knows how to handle an SSD . You should still make a backup image to an external hard drive.

    Just for info.
My progress bar when downloading KB3213986 (along with 2 other updates at the same time) stayed at 95% for so long last evening that I gave up and shutdown before it completed.
Today I've rebooted and my estimate is that it was probably at least an hour before just the download (NOT the installs) completed.
Any one with similar symptoms is ... Stay with it!!

  6. Yes do not shut down if stuck at 95% as it is still working and downloading because it will suddenly jump to 99% then 100%

I reassure myself that it's still working properly by opening Task Manager and looking at the Performance tab. Such pauses in the download progress are often accompanied by significant CPU and disk activity, presumably processing and unpacking what has already been downloaded. These pauses and jumps seem to be normal behaviour - just wait and let it get on with it.

after this update I have problem with signing in microsoft via any windows 10 app such as xbox, feedback, onenote, office, etc. I cannot sign in via the apps just from my pc. I can sign in to my account with browser. Also in reliability monitor I have critical events of xbox identity provider.

Aftre 5 days I uninstall this update on SOC Laptop.
    High battery Drain.
Battery Remain Gauge not correct, update take more than 10 Minutes.
This Update destroyed my Motherboard Drivers, I had huge problems to re-install OEM Drivers, I could not Install, I had to uninstall all MB Drivers one-by-one.
So, Thank you MS, for me no more Updates you do not need to waste your time and mine.
    Game Over.

  10. This cumulative update has failed 3 times. I have had other updates fail but they always succeeded the second time.
Not going to try it again until I get some clarification.

  11. Maybe try the direct download link for a standalone install. I think Brink might of stickied the link. A couple updates back one of our machines just wouldn't accept the update despite a few tries. It was so frustrating as it took so long before it failed. I did the direct download and install instead and that worked fine. I was a bit nervous about the next update after this event, thinking this is going to be an onerous task for every update going forward but it went through fine via normal cumulative update

Since I have many PCs at home, I download the patches from catalog.update.microsoft.com, save on an USB flash drive and execute the .msu files on my different machines.

    4th time was the charm...hehe.
If it didn't work this time I was going to try Offline. I downloaded the update in preparation for it but turned out I didn't need it.
But...getting a Security Client Error dialog box on boot-up.
    Going to investigate that.
    Thanks Scotty.

Update: Apparently the error dialog box referred to a "Service Registration Missing or Corrupt" error.
I ran the Troubleshooter for Windows Updates and it said it "fixed" it.
dialog box still displays at boot.

  14. Where do I find the error code, to know why this is failing? After reading this thread, I tried downloading the .msu file, but when the update is pending, it erroneeously reports that it is already installed, and after the reboot before it is pending again, it simply tells me it can't install it. So the .msu seems pretty useless in this case.

(OK, the screen capture only shows 10 failures, and a pending failure, but there is another below what fit in the window, plus two tries with the .msu)

(Insanity: doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome... I expect the pending update to also fail.)

  15. Download KB3213986 and install it before enabling WU. The rest took about 10 minutes with no reboot. It's the largest KB file that stalls the update process on a clean install.Get it there:
