Never noticed this before when running a cleanup. Windows Upgrade Log Files. This section took over an hour to complete.

 

Usually if something's gonna go wrong, it'll happen to me, but so far, so good. *Thumbs Only had a lengthy restart, sat at the Lock Screen until Ctrl+Alt+Delete sent me right in. A couple of restarts since looking for problems has found none. Being still a little apprehensive, I'll hold off on clean-up.

 

Installed without problems. It was a very usual update. But since then every time i start the file manager and try to scroll down with the mouse, the program freezes and the screen turns black. It takes a couple of minutes to recover. This happened to me the 13th time 2 minutes ago.
wmv, mp4 working, avi files cause crash at media player.
In the meantime windows explorer crashed for the 14th time

 

My mp4 videos all (well, all I've tested so far) work fine, but then there are a number of possible codecs in mp4s.

I can confirm that for .TS video Film & TV, Windows Media Player (and Movie Maker) all crash opening files they previously had no problem with. VLC can still play them.

If you haven't clicked on it, yes it does. I won't be in a hurry to update to it on the first day unless I can get it manually; but even there the traffic will likely be heavy.

 

And I'm finding that W10 updates install smoother on my 2005 Dell Dimension than my wife's Surface Pro 4. Took 30 min on the Dell in one wash, whereas it got stuck on the Surface 3 times at 95% "download"...

 

One of my machine shown this 3.99TB Windows Update Cleanup too.

 

I still have an HDD with my laptop's original OEM Win7 on it. Occasionally I put it back in to keep it up to date. Yes, checking for updates on Win7 can take hours!

But... there is a way to get Win7 updates to run nearly as fast as Win10. Install the 'Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1' KB3125574 (only available from the update catalog).

Then use Disk Clean-up to remove all outdated updates.

You can add to that list of Apps broken by this update the Microsoft Windows DVD Player.

 

Video issues can be fixed by Resetting the PC and, when finished, do NOT reinstall the Windows DVD Player App. Fixes all video issues described by myself and others, although, at least for .mpg and .ts, will require a video codec for playback in Windows Media Player. LAV video alone should be enough. Also, an alternate thumbnail provider will be needed for the aforementioned video formats, if thumbnails are desired.

 

.ts files work for me on WMP, MPC and VLC...I do believe it's a codec problem as "ichee" refers to...

.mpg files work for me too on above apps

 

Well I'm stuck on a Tosh laptop at the retry screen....retried 5 times so far no luck. On a custom box with a gygabyte MB I have the windows blue update screen warning me not to shut down....for over an hour. Ho hummm...I have no idea what to do next.
