Thanks MS. We just tried to shut down our systems after a very hot and long working day. Now we wait for an unannouced update to install. Patch Tuesday is most certainly not patch Wednesday evening! Maybe some respect to users would be nice. But looking at the direction this company took, that is not expectable anymore :-(((

Downloading on multiple systems right now. At least one of those systems is apparently falling prey to the "hang at 2% download" phenomenon observed by at least one other person who posted to this thread. Will report further if additional issues present themselves. So far, though, so good.

Note added 3 hrs later: My production machine went completely south after the restart post update. I had to perform a repair install to get my boot environment working again. My primary symptom was booting to the start screen, but no access to mouse or keyboard to permit PIN entry to login. Various USB problems manifested as well. Repair install fixed everything, though. Weird. All 6 other machines running 15063 updated without problems, though. Why is it that the machine you need most is the one that goes off the rails? Special sub-case of Murphy's Law, I guess...

It didn't end well. After restart got a log full of crashed processes and apps. Thanks Redmont. At one hand I am angry, but also sad. Again a lost evening and night ahead. Restoring images. Can't they do things right there??? Stop bothering and pusing users. Any other operating system politely informs users that an update is available. And offers you the opportunity to either install it or NOT install it. Not so with Windows 10. I regret the day I ever switched to,it. Unfortunately I now have a laptop I am not allowed to install Win 7 on anymore, also drivers for that version are not available. I am considering more and more to buy a macbook. Yes, maybe also not perfect and overpriced. But I spend way too much time on Windows. Deferring, repairing, restoring. Just have so enough of it, so tired of it. :-(

So far every cumulative update for 1703 has hung at 1% or 2% for me. That seems to be because I have a metered connection set. For other updates like Defender definitions, checking for updates responds correctly saying: 'can't download while on a metered connection' and offering a 'download' button.

This doesn't happen for Cumulative Updates, instead it starts downloading then stops at a few percent, never to go any further. Turning off 'metered connection' invariably lets the download continue then run to completion.

This would appear to be a failed implementation of the revised wording in 'Settings - Windows Update' that appeared with 1703.

Previously this wording just said 'except over metered connections'.

  7. I feel your pain. Cannot stand out of the blue updates. They should stick to once a month. Then everyone knows where they stand. I think this is pretty pointless to inflict on everyone seeing as I'd wager on Tuesday next week there will be another one coming down the pipe.

According to a post on Microsoft Answers from a Microsoft rep, this cumulative update also fixes a problem which started in 1703 with Broadcom 440x network cards which made the machine almost unusable unless you could disable the network card.

That's for sure. I once asked Micro$oft. They say that they have the freedom to roll out updates whenever they want and how often they want. Also this was NOT a security patch, so you can expect a new adventure next week. I wouldn't shed a tear if in the future Windows stops being mainstream. It's way too overloaded with features no decent human being ever uses. Obligatory apps, app updates, security leaks, crashing important processes... It should never have been released like this. And every time when it starts to look a little bit more stable, the next mega-upgrade is awaiting. I don't feel comfortable working with it. Every morning you switch on a computer it's waiting to see if it starts normally. And then hoping you reach the end of the day without too many problems. And preferably no pushed surprise updates. But it's all extremely unpredictable. :-(

  10. KB4032188 installed on both of my PCs without a hitch and was even faster than last CU. However, I am a bit disappointed that Microsoft didn't fix the problem with "Advanced Settings" in Firewall &Network Protection. If one goes to "Settings" > Update & security > Windows Defender > Open WD Security Center > Firewall & Network Protection > Advanced Settings (at the bottom). Clicking on the latter generates a UAC prompt and when one clicks on "Yes" to the prompt, nothing still doesn't happen.

This is the second CU where everyone was waiting for a fix to this issue, but it still doesn't happen. What a drag!!..

It doesn't look good. Trying for the third time now. Somehow, after the update something got f****ed up. :-( External USB backup drive gets disconnected, generates write errors. Not happy at all. Also some app readiness process crashes after the first boot after updating. Are there more people with those problems in their logs? I have a very basic installation with an image of just 40 GB. No weird software, no weird drivers, no weird hardware, Why of why o why can't they stop touching my computer and break it down every time?????

The same settings seem to work in Control Panel. My guess is Microsoft wants to get rid completely of "Control Panel" and put everything in Action Center (settings). Windows has become an evolving OS; there are so many things that Microsoft wants to change and at times it is getting tough to follow...Here is hoping that everything will work for the better in the foreseeable future..
