  3. KB4073290 AMD Update Fix for KB4056892 Boot Failure

    Update on my progress........

After downloading KB4073290 from the Microsoft Update Catalog website and running the downloaded file to install it using the Windows Standalone
Installer, my AMD system updated and re-booted to build 16299.194. I ran wushowhide.diagcab and saw that KB4056892 had been removed from hidden updates.

The update KB4073290 worked fine and my AMD Athlon 64 x 2 system is back to normal.

Hope this info might help someone else.

    Thanks,

    Ron

Only for AMD, right? No need to mess with it for Intel if you have winver 1709 (OS Build 16299.192)?

No bad effects even if you do install on an Intel system though.

I backed up then gave it a try. If anything my system seems a bit faster but that's probably a placebo effect *Smile

There appears to be nothing new in this 16299.194 update apart from the fix for the AMD processor bug. If you have a functional 16299.192 you don't need this.

I'm going to ask a dumb question, but my computer is in a unbootable state right now, how can I install this update? I have been hit with the inaccessible boot device since last Thursday. (Have AMD CPU), but can't get into WIndows.

After you do a clean install windows update will check for the latest updates. You only need the latest cumulative update because that includes all the previous fixes. If windows update finds and installs KB4056892, 16299.192 then you don't need this one, you already have the latest fixes.

If you have one of the AMD processors that were affected by the bug in KB4056892 then windows update is blocked from installing it, instead you'd get the previous 16299.125 update. In that case you do need this update to get the latest fixes.

  11. Thanks DoGie, I installed it with no ill effects, if there would I would think it would not install. My system seems faster as well*Wink

my question was because I DONT HAVE INTERNET in my PC, i do downloads by WiFi in my smartphone and NOT directly in my pc, because I dont want connect it to any network. its my way to use Windows and my Games *Smile))

Really, i dont like to be connected all time.

Then, I have my ISO downloaded from MS, and last updates its very large to store in my HD, do you understand me?

There are a lot of different AMD processors. Does this update apply to ALL of them? I thought I read that fixes were only being released for the more recent CPUs? Some of us have Win 10 running on quite old machines. It worked fine before the KB4056892 fiasco that caused us to have to do a clean install.

With Win 10 home, presumably an automatic update will occur once MS sees fit? But I don't want that until we are 100% sure it will work. On Win10 Home, any way to block those updates?

The only issue I see in your plan is the limits cellphone providers place on their subscriptions for data transfer. The .iso file or bootable USB drive can be big, 3.x GB to more than 4GB. This latest update is only 603MB for 64-bit only, not too bad. I've done 3 AMD Desktops today [1 Custom, 1 ASUS and 1 HP] and no problems.
