I have just "Checked for Updates" three times and never seen this new KB4089848. I am wondering if it is destined to everyone. I will wait another 24 hours before going after the standalone package from Microsoft Update catalog.

I think I won't receive this update, as per usual.

I've been using Windows 10 EDU for a few years now, and I've taken full advantage of Group Policy, setting Configure Automatic Update to Notify for download and autoinstall and No auto restart-with logged users (...) to Enabled.

I've also disabled the option to have Windows download updates from WAN or LAN.

That being said, I've always received notification for Cumulative Updates, and I've always been able to download them thorough WU.

However, for a few months now I am not receiving notification about Cumulative Updates. Notifications and downloads for Windows Defender, Flash Player, Malware removal tool are all working tho. *Confused

Digging into my memory I've come to the conclusion that the only change I've made before the appearance of the problem is a further edit to GP: Do not include drivers with Windows Update set to Enabled.

I've tried turning that do Disabled, with no luck.
Since then I've always installed and downloaded CUs with standalone packages, and it doesn't bother me that much.

What annoys me is the fact I don't understand why the OS has this behavior.

I've also purposely avoided to download kb4088776, to see if time was the only problem, but as today I've not received any notification. With the new CU kb4089848 live, I think time is not the problem.

Any help would be appreciated *092

After I posted my last reply, I went to check for updates.
Didn't take long to download/install. Restart is required.

I suppose it could be worse. I have an Android tablet and literally every day there are multiple Google related updates that download. The process sucks the CPU dry, gobbles up all of the WiFi bandwidth, and renders the tablet useless while the updates are being done. I've started leaving the tablet turned on 24/7 and plugged into the charging cord just so I don't have to put up with the mess when I go to use it. Even then, it will download an update or two while I try to use it.

Obviously neither of you use Windows Defender Exploit Protection. I've been waiting for this one all month, couldn't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned. It turned this major SNAFU with the wrong text appearing all over the place....

Hi Bree: I don't use WD and the .309 update turned it on and screwed up Norton Internet Security running properly. Then W10 posted a Notification Center message that the system had an antivirus protection issue. Look at all of the revenue all of those MS certified techs are generating for their employers. Another day, another update.
