Downloaded and installed on my HP laptop no trouble at all

 

I know that update tuesdays are no more officially but MS should tend to keep them. Another unexpected update, another update to slow down work/leisure....

 

Downloaded and installed on my Toshiba laptop no trouble at all.

 

MS is still issuing Office Product updates on the 1st Tuesday of the Month and Windows Updates and Office Security updates on the 2nd Tuesday. They do out of band updates when needed. Today I got 5 Office updates and the one windows update.

Had the same thing happen to me as well a few days ago namely when the new Anti-Malware client version 4.12.17007.18022 was auto-installed. Only way to get pin working again was following this:

Open File Explorer and browse to this location:

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC
Take ownership of NGC and its subfolders
Delete NGC and everything within that folder
Go to Settings-> Accounts->Sign-in Options
Click Add a PIN again and set your PIN
PIN sign in should work going forward

Recommends a cleanup after a just completed session and lists 1 reclaimable package still. This is some leftovers of WU, not heavy just 46MB but will be listed in Disk Cleanup -> Cleanup System Files -> Windows Update Cleanup and cannot be removed.

 

My Surface Pro 4 did some strange thing with this update. It rebooted twice, saying STAGE 1 of 2 and then STAGE 2 of 2, a whole lot of rotating progress dots each time. Finally came up OK but it said this update STILL required a reboot to install. I rebooted it and that didn't change things.

OS version indicates it's been installed despite the fact that the update history still says "requires reboot to finish".

So I found a BAT file out there which resets Windows Update and removes the history. The error message and history are now gone but I'm asking myself WTF?

 

All installed OK.

Dumb question perhaps but I'm suddenly noticing something I've never noticed before... so I'll ask... did this always happen or has something changed.

When you hover the cursor over a picture, did the header bar at the top of the screen always change to 'Manage' adding a 'Picture Tools' tab to the top line ?

Nutz I know, but I've never consciously noticed that happen before.

 

Also I think the... Code: [===== 9.8% ] [==========================100.0%==========================][/quote] ...implies it's still broken - it's losing sync somewhere along the line - still an improvement from the "20% = completed" as was last time tho'.

I had the same thing happened! OS Build shows the correct version but Reliability History and Update History don't show the update having been installed. Everything seems to be running as normal, though. Might be a glitch of some sort

 

Thanks to the thread creator for providing the Stand-Alone download link. My Windows-10 "check for update" button only brings in Windows Defender updates over the past 2 months. Have to come to this valuable forum to see what's available.

Could my Windows-10 P.C. be "mad" at me because I turned off the "download updates from any computers"...or some wording to that effect? I was told that this is a security risk, so I turned off that ability 2 months ago.

 

No, that setting wouldn't do it.

The Windows Update Troubleshooter may fix your problem. It's in Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
