  2. Cursor clicks on things randomly all by itself

    Hi Tom,

Experiencing erratic movements of the cursor could be related to a hardware or driver issue, a third party software, or could be caused by a corrupted program. To help us determine what may have caused this, I would like to ask the following information:

    • Were there any updates installed or changes made on your laptop prior to the issue?
    • If yes, what were those updates or changes?
    • Are you using an external mouse or just the touchpad?

While waiting for your response, please try the following steps:

    Update Touchpad driver

    1. Right-click the Windows key and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Mice and other point devices category, right-click the touchpad, and click
      Update Driver.
    3. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

    Adjust Touchpad sensitivity

    1. Navigate to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
    2. Adjust the Touchpad sensitivity to Low sensitivity.

If you have additional questions, or if the issue persists after the troubleshooting steps above, please let me know by replying to this thread. This way, I'll get notified and respond back to you as soon as I can.

    Regards.

  3. Cursor clicks on things randomly all by itself

I have an HP 360 laptop that's about a year old, running windows 10.

A few months ago the cursor started randomly clicking on things all by itself. I'm familiar with the hover feature. The hover feature is turned OFF.

This kind of like the hover feature, but you don't have to hover. I can be moving the cursor quickly across the screen, and it will click on something as the cursor is moving. It doesn't do it every time. I just parked the cursor over several desktop icons
and nothing happened, just like it should. But start doing things and it will randomly start clicking.

This problem is driving me OUT OF MY FREAKING MIND. Windows suddenly open or move around, menus open or it changes settings. Sometimes I have no idea what it clicked on or how to fix it. It's screws up my documents. It may have submitted a form on a website
before I was ready, or maybe not, I'm not sure, but I had do the damn thing over again from the start.

After searching the help forums, I found the setting in the "make your mouse easier to use" section for "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse." The box was NOT checked. I decided to try checking the box, restarting, going back an unchecking
the box, and restarting again. It made the problem worse. After a few days of that I repeated the process, turning the hover feature on then back off. It's back to where I was, not as bad but still doing it.

As I said, this is driving me TOTALLY INSANE. I used to love using my new laptop and now it's a drag. I thought of trying System Restore, but it said I don't have any restore points. I'll restore all the factory settings if I have to. I'd consider reinstalling
Windows but I don't think I got Windows DVD with the laptop. All my files on my laptop are backed up on my desktop.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Tom

Mouse randomly clicks all by itself

I'm running Windows 10 on a Lenovo T460s laptop. The laptop has recently developed this strange problem with the mouse. It's very similar to the problem described in this ticket:

    Redirecting

The issue reproduces no matter what mouse I use:
    • Logitech bluetooth mouse
    • Logitech wireless USB dongle mouse
    • Microsoft Comfort wired USB mouse
    • The Machine's touchpad
Steps I've taken to troubleshoot the issue:

    • I disabled the touchpad
    • I uninstalled Logitech software which was recommended by Logitech for the bluetooth mouse
    • I updated the driver for the touchpad (it was already up to date)
    • I tried a clean boot (according to the MS support instructions)
    • Bought a new mouse
    • Changed touchpad sensitivity to "low"
    • Uninstalled the driver for the touchpad (synaptics pointing device) - weirdly, when I restarted there was a new device listed in the device manager called "PS/2 compatible mouse" and the touchpad now works again, and I can no longer find the setting to
disable it. So, that's strange. But apparently it's now using a Microsoft driver, which was the next thing to try - installing MS generic driver...

I'll try to describe the behavior a little better than the other ticket:

The cursor randomly left-clicks and holds. If I move the mouse when this happens, it drags whatever the cursor was on or it selects text, exactly as if I were holding the left mouse button. It randomly releases, too. Sometimes, it lasts only for a quick
second, but sometimes it really gets stuck. When it is stuck, right-clicking usually releases it so I can continue working. Left-clicking doesn't help, I can left-click repeatedly and it doesn't release, when I use the touchpad buttons or the USB mouse buttons.
Keyboard actions also don't have any effect on the behavior, as far as I can tell.
