Cursor no longer appearing on screen, but still selects and highlights elements

First time asking a question hereThe title says it all. My friends and I were playing a multiplayer game on my laptop, and then one of them hit the ESC key to pause the game but got out of fullscreen instead. That's when the cursor disappeared. Though it's never happened before, it may have been because I disabled my touchpad and resorted to using my touchscreen for ease of use, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm using an Acer Spin 3, the first laptop you would see if searched for on Microsoft Edge. I've watched numerous videos on how to fix this issue, but none have helped me get the outcome I

Cursor no longer shows on login screen but appears after logging in

After a recent Windows update my cursor no longer shows when I turn on the computer and get to the login screen.
I can still log in, though...I click the Ctrl button and I can then type into the password screen.

But until then I have no cursor. Most of the time this is ok. But I do like to respond when Microsoft puts a new picture on my screen and asks if I like it or not, but now without a cursor there I can't do that.

Short of rolling back the recent update, any suggestions on how to get the cursor to show?

I have run the sfc /scannow which didn't help. I checked for updated drivers for my touchpad. I changed the type of cursor displayed.

  3. LOST CURSOR!!

Here's a list of easy steps and all you need is the TAB and ARROW KEYS.

    • Hit your windows button so the pop up menu appears
    • Type in mouse and TouchPad setting. Your computer will search for it
    • After selecting find "additional mouse options at the bottom of the screen 4.select the last tab. This should be the built in mouse pad.
    • Select "enable device". This should highlight your mouse pad or "smart pad"
After applying the setting it should appear.

How to disable desktop folder highlight on hover

Thank you, GMCGee78 for the suggestion.

Double click is already enabled. I do see how single click will highlight and remain lit after removing the cursor from the icon.
Hovering in that instance acts as the initial click select of a double click, priming the object to be expanded with, seemingly, the singular click.

As it stands (double click enabled) hovering alone brings up the highlighted function. If I click, it will stay selected, similar to single click that you've pointed toward, where if the cursor is moved about the screen, that selection will remain until deselected.

If I don't click, and only hover, it will remain highlighted until I remove the cursor.
In this instance it isn't fully selected, it's just showing me where the icon/folder is located underneath the cursor. Which is default and fully normal.

Removing the highlight and outline entirely, while hovering above with the cursor, is the aim. No acknowledgement of cursor placement when hovering above the item, in other words.

    OR

Highlighting/outline in response to a click instead of a hover.

Your participation in searching for the answer is much appreciated. I feel we are nearing a solution.
