  1. Cursor Reset Problem on Windows File Search

I am having an ongoing problem with my Windows Folder Search, and that is the system is not allowing me to write fluidly. Any folder that I open, if I am trying in the search bar at the top of the folder, the cursor seems to reset itself any time I use the spacebar and the search populates. For example... I am a DJ. If I go into my music folder and try to search for a song, in this case Chappel Roan Hot To Go, I will write 'Chappel Roan Hot To Go', but whenever I space or whenever the folder autopopulates a result, the cursor resets itself, so it will come out like 'Chappelantogo'. Essential

    File Explorer Search Question

Additional information to "properly" complete this task (this post is for the original poster, and for future reference for others that come across this post): The step that is mentioned in post #2 above disables that certain feature from listing the history of your search results, yet those search results that you posted in your picture, I highly believe, are still saved in your computer. (So if you undo the steps from post #2, your history will show up again.) The best practices in a scenario like this is to also remove those search results (that are now hidden after following step #2). What I would do: 1) Temporarily undo what you did from Step #2 2) Click in the search box, and place your mouse cursor on the first result. You will see an "X" on the right side. Here's an example of what mine currently looks like:
Cursor Reset Problem on Windows File Search 386064d1676864355t-file-explorer-search-question-image.png
(as you can see, I placed my mouse cursor on the first result, to see that "X" on the right side of that history result) 3) Press that "X" button, to delete that search result from the history that the computer saved 4) The list will move upwards, removing that first result. The same thing will show for that next result. 5) Continue that same process until the list is cleared. 6) Keep note though! One this list is removed, press in that Search box again! It's possible that more results will show. If so, those next list of results are from even older. Sometimes Windows doesn't show every single item within that first list, so you must press the Search Box above again, in order for Windows to reload more of that list. 7) Continue this same process, if applies. 8) One there are no more items to list, then follow the same process from Step #2 above to go back to the new, history-disabled, method that you just did. What I typed is pretty much a more "proper" way to approach this scenario, in order to avoid others figuring out a way to look at the history of your searches. My steps are not necessary, but would be more preferred if you want to completely remove your search history. It's your choice.

  3. Search Content of MHT files

    Hi David,

Most probably, this is a problem with the search and indexing of your Windows 10 computer. For us to provide the best resolution possible, we would like to clarify the following:

    • Are you trying to search the content of MHT files using Cortana?
    • Have you tried searching it using the File Explorer?
    • Are you using a third-party app to search for the content of MHT files?

As an initial troubleshooting step, we suggest that you run the troubleshooter for search and indexing. To run the Search and Indexing troubleshooter, follow these steps:

    • Click the Start button and select the Settings
      icon.
    • Choose Update & Security from the list.
    • Click Troubleshoot in the left pane of the window.
    • Under Find and fix other problems.
    • Select Search and Indexing and click Run the troubleshooter.

We'll keep an eye out for your response.

Cursor Reset Problem on Windows File Search

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.
