Windows 10: Custom Boot Icon

How do I change the Win10 boot icon? I tried it using the old method and it doesn't work on the latest update. The method I used before was editing the bootres.dll file using resorator and gimp to resize the images and convert them to bitmap format. It doesn't work at all now. Even after editing the bootres.dll the windows boot icon is still displayed without change. So has anyone got it to work on the latest update?

Please be informed that you may customize the Network icon. You may not be able to customize the available
networks under the Network. Try the below steps and check if it helps to customize the Network icon.

• 
  Press Windows + I keys on the keyboard to open
  Settings menu.
  
• 
  Click on Personalization.
  
• 
  Select Themes from the left navigation pane.
  
• 
  Click on Desktop icon settings.
  
• 
  Click on Network and click on
  Change icon.
  
• 
  Select the icon which you prefer and click on
  OK.
  
• 
  Click on Apply button and click on
  OK button.
  

The above steps will help you to customize the Network icon.

In order to assist you better, I would like to know the following queries:

What happens when you customize your Desktop icons?

How long does it retains it positions? Does it change on restart?



I suggest you to try the methods below and check if it helps.



Method 1:

I would suggest you to try the steps and check if it helps.

• Right-click on the desktop and click on View.
• Uncheck the option Align icons to grid.
• Check if the issue persists.

Method 2:

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to boot the computer to
Safe Mode and check if the issue occurs or not. If the issue does not occur in
Safe mode, set the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

Step 1:

Step 2:

If the issue do not occur in Safe Mode perform a
clean boot and check.

Saving custom desktop icon positions

Thanks for responding. The icons stay where I put them until I refresh or restart. Unchecking Align Icons to Grid does not solve the issue. Nothing
happened when I pressed F4 or F5 so I had to shut down and therefore wasn't able to restart in safe mode.

Looks like I'll end up taking my system back to the Geeks (45 ml drive) to see if they can remedy my issue.
