Custom mouse cursor applies in menu but doesn't actually change, only for the "move" cursor...

I've tried everything but I can't seem to get the cursor to change from the default 4-arrow cursor for moving objects. Every other cursor form can be customized just fine, but when I apply any custom cursor to replace the "move" cursor, it simply doesn't work this includes any of the pre-loaded Windows cursor options as well as downloaded custom cursors. It says it's applied, and the cursor even changes and stays changed in the pointers menu of the mouse properties if I come back to it, but in practice it doesn't change at all when I go to move an object, no matter the program I'm working in

    :)

  2. mouse cursor corrupt

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

It sounds like the custom cursor file you've downloaded and applied for your Windows 10 system is either missing or corrupted, which is causing the erratic behavior of your mouse cursor. Here's how you can fix it:

    1. Change the Cursor to Default:
      • Go to Settings by pressing Windows + I.
      • Click on Devices.
      • Select Mouse from the left pane, then click on Additional mouse options.
      • In the Mouse Properties window, go to the Pointers tab.
      • Under the Scheme, select Windows Default (system scheme) or any other default option available.
      • Click Apply, then OK to save the changes.
    2. Check for the Missing or Corrupted File:
      • Navigate to the location mentioned in the error message

        C:\Users\Vmzla\Downloads\macOS-BigSur-Regular-Windows\
      • If the Default.cur file is indeed missing or appears to be of an unusually small size (which could indicate corruption), you'll need to download the cursor pack again or choose another one.
    3. Download Cursor File Again:
      • Find a reputable source to download the macOS cursor pack for Windows.
      • Download the cursor pack and extract it to a known location.
    4. Reapply the New Cursor:
      • Follow the first step to open the Mouse Properties window.
      • This time, instead of choosing a default scheme, click on Browse and navigate to where you've extracted the new cursor pack.
      • Select the appropriate .cur file for the 'Normal Select' cursor and click Open.
      • Click Apply, then OK to save the changes.
    5. Update Windows and Drivers:
      • Ensure your Windows 10 is up to date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and clicking on Check for updates.
      • Update your mouse or touchpad driver through Device Manager by right-clicking on the start menu, selecting Device Manager, finding your mouse or touchpad under Mice and other pointing devices, right-clicking on it, and selecting Update driver.
If after these steps, your cursor is still behaving erratically, consider restarting your computer if you haven't already. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix unexpected issues.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

*jagged edges are due to GIF image compression, the actual cursors are smoother.

    How to install:
Extract/place the cursor files from zip in the cursor folder (usually C:\Windows\Cursors) then got to mouse pointer settings and browse for the installed files after selecting the working and busy states. Apply or even save the new scheme under a new name, to easily switch back between different cursors via the drop-down theme list:

    Custom Cursors

They are as Hopachi named them so I left them alone. Either way it's easy to pick the correct one when I browse for them in mouse settings.

Explain step-by-step how you attempted to apply them?
