  1. Custom system won't boot (fans + pw led but nothing else)

    System in question: Epsilon - s Saved Part List - Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5GHz Quad-Core, Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR, Core V1 Mini ITX Tower - PCPartPicker Canada

All components are new except the video card, HDD, and monitors

I built and had it up and running on Monday and had no issues until Wednesday, where I left it and came back to it being nonresponsive (power LED and all fans on at idle speeds, but no video). Holding the power button did not force shut down, so I had to use the PSU rocker. On Tueday I did upgrade my BIOS and manually overclocked my ram to 2400MHz because setting profile 1 on the BIOS wasn't sticking.

Whenever I start it, fans and power led turn on. HDD and the mobo's RGB lighting turn on for a split second then turn off (I have the RGB turned off, not sure if pulling the CMOS battery reset it) The monitors do not react at all to power cycling.

I've taken it completely apart and put it back together again (I didn't take the CPU or heatsink off though) and nothing work.

The only thing I can think of was that I did go back into the system to fix the power LED as the wires were reversed so it wasn't turning on, and when troubleshooting I found one of the CPU's 2x4 power plugs was loose. Did I fry my mobo or CPU? is there anything else I can check? I don't have any spare components so Saturday I'm going to bring it to Memory Express to see if they can figure out what's wrong, but if I can solve it myself that would be wonderful.

    thanks.

    :)

  2. Laptop won't turn on after Interrupted windows 10 upgrade

I have a Lenovo u410 windows 8.1. Had a problem of restart. Restart function was not working. When prompted restart it goes off but won't turn on back though fans and led indicates running . Had to manually on again .

While upgrading to windows 10, only 30% configuration has finished it was prompted for auto restart but after that it didn't turn on. Screen is black with no error messages. Led and fan is running . Doesn't boot at all. Tried hard booting by removing battery
but nothing came up . Your help must appreciated .

    thanks

Laptop bricked after Windows 10 Anniversary Update

After I installed the Windows 10 Anniversary update 2 days ago, my laptop (Asus G750JX) have been very unstable. Several times it has completely freezed, and i have to restart it. Today it froze, and afterwards it would not boot. I push the powerbutton,
and the leds turn on, and I can hear the fans start spinning, but nothing else. Black screen, no reaction to any keys, no bios, nothing. Trying to boot without ssds and hdds does not change anything.

Are anyone else experiencing something similar? Anyone got any solutions?

    Hi FuturDreamz.

So if I understand you built this machine on Monday. You upgrade BIOS and overclocked it Tuesday. Wednesday it was non-responsive.

Not sure at what point you pulled CMOS battery, yes it reset BIOS.

So you need to recheck connections, especially where power switch connects to MB. Make double sure everything is on right pins. Next check your CMOS battery, is it seated corrected, is it oriented correctly, usually the solid side is face up. Actually remove it and re-install so overclock is gone.

Next if you are not using raid disconnect ALL drives. If your MB has integrated video pull video card and use onboard. Pull all memory and place one stick in. Try to boot to BIOS. If that is a no go try another single stick. If it boots on first stick power down and try other stick. If you have more sticks test them all.

    Can you boot to BIOS?

Are you get any beep codes during Post? (Is there a system speaker connected to pins?)

Was it working before you updated the BIOS? Does that mobo have a BIOS reset (a back up BIOS)? Did you use a antistatic wrist band?

My guess: a bad BIOS flash or ESD killed mobo (all or part of it) and/or CPU.

With out having any spare parts to do any kind of diagnostics it's just a guessing game.

  6. Reading OP's original post, BIOS was updated Tuesday and machine went flat Wednesday. I was hoping by removing everything the OP could at least get a BIOS boot without OS. There were also concerns about cabling, loose Aux power and power switch so that needed to be review and secured.

  7. I took it all apart and put it back together again. No IGP so I can't bypass the video card. No onboard speaker or buzzer it seems. I updated the BIOS using Gigabyte's took to see if enabling the proper setting in BIOS will boost the ram to it's rated 2400MHz, that didn't help but I left the BIOS alone after that and used an app to bump the ram clock to 24 from 21.33. It was running fine after that, and I was playing games (using a Steam Link).

On Wednesday I did notice my power LED was not turning on and surmised I flipped the connector. I reversed it, but there were a LOT of wires in that area so I had to unplug my USB header and remove my HDD caddy to get at it. I'm fairly certain it was working fine after that. After I watched some tv and came back to it not working. While troubleshooting I found that half of the 2x4 pin CPU power connector was loose, but plugging it in did not help.

I ended up just bringing it to Memory Express. I'm certain I killed something by shorting it, but I don't know what and I don't want to be buying a whole bunch of new parts while diagnosing it. If it ends up being a simple fix I'll be relived enough to be happy paying the diagnostic fee.

Can you post a picture of you case with the side panel off. Take a few of all the hardware installed.

I'm completely lost at what you're referring to here.

  9. A lot of connectors are consolidated to one corner of the mobo, including the front button connectors. That is also where one of the hard drive caddys sits, so that spot can get extremely tight. The power LED was not turning on, and since it was in the right spot I realized I had the + end on the - pin and vice versa. Reversing the connector required a bit of digging to get to.

  10. I'm thinking you will be fine. Since this is a new build something failed. Don't be to liberal with info at repair shop if this is where you bought parts.

We should hold a lottery.... I'm going to bet the PSU failed.

    Good luck.

Are you talking about the actual light indicator or the PSU?

  12. The one on the case. I was fairly certain that would be obvious based on the context, sorry.

  13. Custom system won't boot (fans + pw led but nothing else)

Anyways, replacing the motherboard did the trick. I got a 2nd 23" 1080p monitor to replace the satellite monitors and will be looking at replacing my video card eventually. But tbh I can't really justify anything better than what I have as my old R9 290 works fine for my needs.

  14. Great news. I hope they replaced the MB under warranty.

Yes the world is full of people replacing things that are working just fine. I have a couple of old laptops, would I like a new one, you bet, but they do the job I need them to do.

Thanks for posting back your solution. Guess I would have lost lottery, I was betting PSU.

If you get a chance please mark your thread solved.
