  1. Customize the taskbar or create application groups on Start Menu

Where is the ability to customize!? why can you not create app groups on the start menu, or on the taskbar. this needs fixed. this makes things much harder to find and run. i want to group my photo apps into a folder called photo apps and have them accessible on the taskbar or on the start menu. windows 11 doesn't make either possible. i cant believe how much a move backwards this is.how about a group for all the games i have installed. how about a group for all the other apps, like development applications. i dont want a bunch of stupid icons on my desktop. why would Microsoft remove

    :)

    Start Menu and Taskbar customization

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone have recommendations on how to customize the start menu and taskbar for a deployment image? I've tried customizing the start menu and taskbar, then exporting the configuration into a XML, but the start menu appears in two columns when I want it half way along with the taskbar settings not sticking.

    Any suggestions will be great!

  3. Start menu customization

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to disable the function show most used apps and check if this helps. Follow the steps below to do the same:

    • Press ‘Windows ’ key on the keyboard.
    • In the search box, type ‘Settings' and press enter.
    • Click on ‘Personalization' and click on ‘Start' .
    • Now turn off the option 'Show most used Apps'.
If you're trying to pin the programs\ applications to the Taskbar right click on the App\Program and select the option Pin to Taskbar.

Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

Customize the taskbar or create application groups on Start Menu

No recent document for applications on start menu

These list of recent files are called Jump Lists. Windows 10 still has them, but now you get them by right-clicking on the application on the Start menu (or on an application pinned to the taskbar).

If you can't see a jump list this way, check that 'Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar' is turned on in:
    Settings > Personalise > Start

NB: Be careful with this setting. The way to clear all Jump Lists is turn this setting off then back on again.
