I find that on March 16, 2017 KB3150513 was installed. That's the day Edge, the default Start menu, right clicking most things on the taskbar, the reveal desktop button, "modern" apps and who knows what else stopped functioning.

I installed Classic Shell and used The Windows Club utilities to remove all the useless to me Apps. Also got rid of Cortana and OneDrive. The Classic Shell start menu still works, otherwise Windows 10 would be just about unusable with all that's not working.

Everything was working just fine until this update got pushed on the 16th. It's the only update installed on my system that day, the day things quit working.

This update was released initially May 11, 2016 and has been updated a few times since, keeping the same KB number.

I'm going to uninstall it and see if that will un-do the damage.

DHCP server is failing to produce a valid IP address. any suggestions?

    Hi Robert

Both KB4013418 and KB3150513 were installed on my computer on 15/03/2017.

In my enthusiasm, I uninstalled KB3150513 but could not uninstall KB4013418.

    Was this a mistake?

    Regards

    Clive

After Win Update, my Touchpad is jerky

Update: Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3150513) on Friday.

The touchpad on my HP Spectre x360 15 inch 2017 version was previously silky smooth, Now it is jerky, unpleasant to use for two finger scrolling.

Hi, Like you, I avoid universal apps and don't use Cortana.

However, it's really not worth taking the time to remove Windows 'additions' you don't use. All they do is take up some memory (e.g. Cortana) and a bit of internet bandwidth as they are updated regularly. Other than that you can turn things off in Settings so background data is minimised. And hopefully you haven't configured any Photos albums (indexing updates can occasionally be problematic).

If you do maintenance repairs on Windows what you've removed will probably be reinstated, and certainly on each major build upgrade. (There's one due very soon, so Cortana et all will reappear).

It's more likely you'll create problems you don't need by removing them.

I use Classic Shell; I have Aeroglass (semi-opaque borders); I have customised icons (done by a couple of programs) and coloured backgrounds. None bar Aeroglass updates, for just a few days were affected by the update.

If you still have problems, an in-place upgrade repair should fix those.

I had to do an "upgrade" in place to the same version of 10, then reinstall KB4013429. Everything was then back exactly as it was prior to the 16th - except for Windows 7 Solitaire getting removed. Put that back and it's good to go. Right clicked and unpinned and uninstalled most of the stuff in the Apps submenu and uninstalled or unpinned everything on the superwide default Win 10 start menu.
