Cyber attack Knocks Out Access to Websites

So-called denial-of-service attacks can knock sites offline by flooding them with junk data, blocking the way for legitimate users

Several websites including Twitter and Tumblr were unreachable during an extended period for many U.S. internet users Friday following repeated online attacks.

  2. Yikes. That's a pretty large scale DDoS attack. Twitter, Reddit and Disqus are all still unreachable for me.

    :)

    Wanna Cyber Attack

    Me again,

have checked on web and apparently Windows 10 patch KB4013429 issued in March included MS17-010 patch, which should prevent the Wanna. So hope I (and all with KB4013429 patch) are OK. Please confirm if this assumption is correct.

It figures an obscure state like mine, that nobody even knows where it is on the map, would break the internet...

I mean, think about it, an important part of the net, whose job is(from their site):
gets DDoS's and kills half of the net in the states!
Pornhub, got DDOS'd and and survived unscathed, yes Pornhub:
What Is DNS and Why Does It Make the Internet Break?

And Dyn whose specialty is to protect against this stuff get'S nuked?
C'mon Dyn, pull you servers out of your DNS's

Guess my area was lucky, radio couple of hours ago reported it was mostly the Eastern part of the USA.

  11. Yeah, and a bit on the west coast and down in Texas.

Here's the US map for the 3rd attack:

Apparently Europe got hit a bit too, but not nearly as bad.

Information One piece of advice, if anyone is still having a problem, now the attack is over, still connecting, try flushing your DNS:

    • Right click on the start menu and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
    • Type in the command: ipconfig /flushdns

This will clear out any bad DNS requests or false IP addresses that your system has saved, and Windows can then request new ones.

I was a little more drastic, changed my Primary and Secondary DNS to Google servers, (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4), which obviously did the flush too

I suspected a DNS issue as most of the net address space was working, (just Twitter was a visible issue from me and no news of problems at twitter)

I think the targeting of DYN was due to the fact that they hold the primary DNS record for Twitter and a few other major web giants so a relatively minor attack would gain major results

The Net is of course designed to With multi-redundancy so will heal most of these attacks quickly but reliance on a single Main DNS record may need to be looked at by DYN, Twitter or both

Yeah that is a good option, or use Open DNS:

    • 208.67.222.222
    • 208.67.220.220
