Windows 10: Cyberghost VPN wont start all of a sudden.

It has been working fine for so many months. Now all of a sudden this is happening. The company is at loss they claim its a windows problem. I have tried1 Clean uninstall and reinstall2 reg removed3 run admin while installation4 run .exe as admin4.1 My antivirus is switched off norton no windows defender or firewall5 Windows does not displayu any details of the error too. Only this error and no otherWindows 10. Pls help

Using build-in VPN-Connection with CyberGhost

this is my first post here and just before starting I want to let you know that english is not my native language. So please do not laugh, if I'm using a word incorrectly or make mistakes building a sentence. I promise to do my very best.

I use Windows 10 Professional (64bit). And it comes with a build in VPN-Connection. I want to use it with my CyberGhost Premium Account (I use CyberGhost for Youtube as many music videos are blocked in Germany but visible in the US).

I used the client software from CyberGhost before and if I was connected to a VPN-Server I had the IP Address of these server. Now I want to use as less software as possible, so I decided to use the Windows build in Connection.

I followed the "How to configure L2TP (with IPSec)" Guide.
Even if its written for Windows 8 I have done the same steps in Windows 10.

But after connecting to the VPN I can still see my IP Address from my german provider. I was expecting to see an IP from the country in which I have connected to a server.

Does anyone have an idea or maybe a solution?

 

Windows 10 & CyberGhost 8.3 Connection VPN Problem

The purpose of this article is to provide a workaround for getting CyberGhost VPN 8.3 operating on Windows 10.

Symptoms: Software installs but is not able to connect or has difficulty and generates an error message when loading the VPN application.

Phase 1: Fix Firewall Rules (Most Common Issue)

The below assumes firewall is configured to allow all outbound connections and default install path on 64bit system:

• Allow all inbound connections to specific application
  
  • C:\Program Files\CyberGhost 8\Dashboard.exe
    
  • C:\Program Files\CyberGhost 8\Dashboard.Service.exe
    
  • C:\Program Files\CyberGhost 8\Data\OpenVPN\x86\openvpn.exe
    

# Signs of improvement should almost be immediate pending application restart

Phase 2: Review Event Manager (Likely Issue if Using Popular Name for PC Name)

The below assumes you have access to administrative privileges on local computer:

• Open Event Viewer
  
• Create Custom View by Source, select Server
  
• If there is an excessive number of Event ID 2505 the rename the PC name to something more random
  
  • “The server could not bind to the transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip* because another computer on the network has the same name. The server could not start.
    
  • Example change “Common-Name” to “V-R184dhSD8-fX7"
    
  • Open and run PowerShell as admin
    
  • Enter and execute the following command, new name is between the quotes
    
    • Rename-Computer -NewName “NewName”

• Reboot computer # (Signs of improvement should almost be immediate upon computer reboot)
  

Phase 3: Attempt whitelisting in AV RTS

Only attempt if necessary. Otherwise, if there is no improvement then revert.

• C:\Program Files\CyberGhost 8\Data\OpenVPN\x86\openvpn.exe
  
• # Official KB has a few other executables listed for whitelisting. More likely than not this is not the main issue causing connection problem.
  

Phase 4: Review gpedit.msc (Advanced Option, by default FIPS is disabled)

• Ensure the following group policy is set to Disabled
  
  • Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing
    
  • I've noticed that this software just will not work with FIPS enabled, cannot agree encryption with VPN server.

Hi everyone.
I am not an expert about Vpn and that's why I would like to know if someone could list me a few trusted Vpns, I would really appreciate any suggestion/ advice.
