    Dear All,

    In very few words, my D Data drive is full.

    As you can see in the screenshot above, it is a rather large drive 500+ Giga which I, in fact, do not use. After some research online, I found that it is storing recovery files for my system. This seems to match the name of the files I see when I open the drive.

    As a result, I'm strongly considering removing some of the back-ups. To find and delete the back-ups, I followed the steps I found online in cdm to get the bellow;

    I would like however to have confirmation on what can or should not be deleted. In addition, as per the above screenshot, we can see two very large primary partitions 4 and 5 that seem to be the reason for the little space available on my drive. I, however, assume that this type of partitions should not be removed. Any advices?

    Apologies for my low computer literacy!

    FYI, I'm adding the disk manager output below;

    Thanks in advance for the help,

    Robin A

    :)

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

    to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

  3. D drive

    Hi,

    Based on the details you have provided us, it appears that there might be some corrupted contents on the said partition. We can also consider that this is caused by a virus.

    For us to check if a certain virus is hiding your files, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Type Command prompt in the search bar.
    • Type-in the following command:

      attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
    • Press Enter to execute the command.

    If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.

    You can follow the steps below to start with the process:

    • Click on the File Explorer.
    • Select This PC.
    • Right-click on your D drive, then click on Format.
    • Follow the on-screen process to finish formatting the partition.

    Let us know how it goes so that we can further assist you.

    No C: but D: drive has all the data

    Hi Austin,

    To help you with your concern regarding the data on the drive C:, you're seeing the drive "C:" as the drive "D:" because you're booting your computer outside Windows. When booting your computer outside Windows, the system is reading the recovery partition
    as drive C: and the data in the drive C: \ are listed on the drive D: \. Try to boot your computer and try to check again the data in the drive C: \ and see if the data are listed.

    Regards.
