D: drive access hampered by requiring administrator permissions - account has full control

    Hello all,

I was hoping you could help me with a bit of a head scratcher. My computer has a large D: which has become virtually unusable due to requiring administrator permissions - and I'm certain my current account has them full control ticked in security tab, listed as an administrator in account settings.

As a result, I cannot save video capture to the drive, nor can I use programs like Steam to download games to the drive.

I've read up fairly extensively I hope, without much success, hence turning to you. Specific things that have been tried:

1 I've been sure to enable all permissions for my account via the right click/properties/security pathway. Full control is apparently enabled on my account and all accounts just to be sure - this is only a personal computer. Despite this, the issue still persists.

2 I have trialled disabling the User Account Settings, to no avail. Despite a restart, the notification still appears when trying to move files to the drive via Windows Explorer.

Of interest: When I check effective permissions via Rightclick D: - Properties - Security - Select account and advanced - view effective access - select account:

The account does not appear to have full control. Specifically, I do not appear to have access to Create files/write data, create folders/append data, write attributes, write extended attributes, delete subfolders and files, delete, and take ownership.

All of these accesses are limited by 'Share'.

I have a feeling this is the root of the problem, but do not know how to proceed further, given that all permissions appear to be enabled for this account as detailed previously. Could anyone be of any assistance?

    Many thanks for your time.

    :)

  2. Deleting a file that requires permission from Administrator

I'm trying to delete a file that keeps telling me I need permission to perform this action. I require permission from Administrators to make changes to this file.

Now if I look under User Accounts on the control panel there is only ONE account listed: mine as administrator.

However, under the properies window for the file there are three:

    SYSTEM

    Administrators (DJ Hernandez\Administrators)

    Users (DJ Hernandez\Users)

The first two are listed as Full control on the Permissions tab of the Advanced Security Settings for the file. The Users is listed as Read. All three under Inherited From have C:\Program Data\Avg\Antivirus\

Is there any way that will allow me to get rid of this file? This belongs to a program that I have deleted using the Control Panel but it still shows up in the program listing under Programs and Features of the Control Panel.

    no administrator permission

    Hi Ryan,

Let us assist you to have an Administrator permission. To start, follow the steps below to enable the Windows Super Administrator Account.

    • Type CMD on the search box.
    • CMD will appear at top.
    • Right click on it, then choose Run as administrator.
    • Type this command & hit Enter: Net user administrator /active:yes.
    • After you enable the Super Administrator account, log out on your existing account then log into Super Administrator account.
    • On the Super Administrator account, you can now create an Administrator account or give Administrator permission on the existing account.

After you created an Administrator account, we suggest that you disable the Super Administrator account by following the same steps and using this command:
    Net user administrator /active:no.

Let us know how it goes.

D: drive access hampered by requiring administrator permissions - account has full control

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

    Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
