Windows 10: D drive completely gone, deleting several hundred gigabytes of data.

Hey Microsoft. I've just had an unfortunate accident with my Windows 10 computer. I was playing a video game, and a notification popped up saying 'Restart to repair drive errors.' Seeing as this was a system notification, I restarted, unknowing of what would happen next. Instead of everything being fine, the entire drive is gone. Doesn't appear in File Explorer, Disk Management, Device Manager, etc, however I can still hear it spinning away. It, and all the data on it including many videos, at least 200 gigabytes of content for a game, and several programs has just disappeared. I can't hear

PC reset deletes data in D-drive partition

My PC comes with Windows 10 installed in the C-drive with another partition D-drive for data storage. I did a backup to D-drive before doing a "Remove Everything" PC reset. However, all data in D-drive was also deleted. Why does PC reset also delete data
in D-drive and how do I recover the D-drive data?

 

Cannot access D drive since upgrading to Windows 10.

  Is the D: drive located on the same hard disk or on different hard disk?

  Did you have any important data saved on the
  D: drive?
  

If the D: is saved on another hard disk and you are unable to access it, I suggest you to format the drive completely and check if the issue is resolved.



To format the hard disk, follow the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
  Disk management option.
  
• 
  Right click on the D: drive and select
  Format option.
  
• 
  Wait for the formatting to complete and check if the changes are effective.

Is it safe for me to delete DATA (D drive?

the data stored in the recovery partition is for the laptop depending on what operating system was used to create the recovery partition will determine what's it in how the recovery will work.

if the recovery partition is less than 2 gigabytes then it was created by Microsoft operating system and would not recovery the c: or D: Partitions if deleted and reformatted as it requires operating system on the c: drive.

If its around 4 gigs or larger then it was created back at the time of sale which means it has the original operating system recovery settings for you computer which includes the D partition which means even deleting the c and d partition would re-stall
it the same way if its within the recovery mode settings by the manufacturer

your best bet is going to the laptop website and check for the recovery tool for your brand and down load it then burn it to a disc before you start anything.
