  1. D:\ Drive Inaccessible Problem with Shortcut

Shortly after installing the Opera browser, the Steam shortcut on my taskbar changed to the default icon. When I try to open Steam, a window pops up called "Problem with Shortcut". "The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'Steam Client Bootstrapper.lnk' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, then try again."

The same happens when trying to access other files and programs stored on the D:\ drive. In the File Explorer, the only drive displayed is C:\.

After uninstalling Opera browser, I restarted my computer and ran an AVG antivirus scan. The virus scan didn't show any alerts and the same error message appears. A similar question had answers mentioning Disk Management, so I checked that. The screenshot is attached below.

In Device Manager, only one drive shows up under the Disk Drives category. Is this the D:\ drive? Searching the serial code LITION CV1-8B128 brought up a driver with a different amount of storage than my C:\ drive has in File Manager. I think this is the same amount of storage as the D:\ drive, but I forget the exact number.

I use a laptop with Windows 10. The D:\ drive is not external, it came pre-installed and set up. Unfortunately there are no backups saved, I meant to make one but never got around to it. Windows 10 is completely up-to-date. There isn't anything very important on the drive, mostly games, so if completely necessary it would be fine to reset the laptop. However, I would prefer to save my files if possible.

Thank you in advance, and please let me know if more information is needed or there is any issue with this post. I may not respond immediately.

    Optical Drive Issue

    Hi Jerry, you're welcome.

Here's mine after I rt clk'd on my Documents Folder like you show in Scrsht 11:

D:\ Drive Inaccessible Problem with Shortcut [IMG]

I'd like to wait until you reply to my question in Scrsht 12, if it is a remnant of the process try deleting the one on the dsktp and see if the one in send to also disappears. If it stays in send to, test it, and if you're still having problems I'd suggest you could go back to: Option One: To Add or Remove Items in Send To context menu for Your Account (current user) and do Step 3 to remove it and start over using Step 4 but be very careful of your steps in creating the shortcut and be sure you d&d that shortcut to the send to part of the address.

I'm busy today and I probably won't be back until the evening.

  3. D drive

    Hi,

Based on the details you have provided us, it appears that there might be some corrupted contents on the said partition. We can also consider that this is caused by a virus.

    • Type-in the following command:

      attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
    • Press Enter to execute the command.

If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.
