Windows 10: D drive is missing.. please help!

Hello,

A little over a month ago the D drive on my computer (Asus Notebook PC, Windows 10) would disappear occasionally but when I rebooted the computer it would reappear and work normally, until one day it just completely disappeared and has not come back. I am okay with computers but this is a little over my head. I haven't posted sooner because I was starting finals at school so I didn't want to mess with my computer until they were over. Anyway I followed a lot of advice online and check disk management and rescan for drivers but my D drive still didn't show up. All it showed was my C drive, Recovery, disk 0 partition 1 and Disk 0. Is the Disk 0 my D drive but with the wrong name attached? (From what I've researched this seems unlikely but I thought I would ask).




Following other advice online I also tried to update my drivers through Device manager but it said I had the best/most up to date drivers. It also only showed one disk drive which I am not sure is normal.




I have also run multiple scans for malware through Malwarebytes and Pandasoft and nothing was found. Also, I don't know if this is related but I was having trouble with OneNote filling up and ultimately running out of disk space in my C drive while I was taking notes (it would fill up 50GB over an hour, which would disappear over time once I closed OneNote) so I moved my OneNote files to the d drive, since it had more space as a short term fix. I ultimately stopped using OneNote before my D drive completely disappeared but it started disappearing occasionally around the same time so I thought it might be related somehow (sorry, did I mention this is all a little over my head?)


Also, I saw advice to open the computer and try unplugging and replugging the cords for the drive but to be completely honest, I dont know if my D drive is a physical drive (any advice for how I can find out?). And I have no idea how to open the back of the computer safely, without damaging anything else so I would appreciate advice on that as well.


Lastly, I did consider doing a system restore but it seems my system protection was off on my C drive (and my D drive didn't even appear as an option) for some reason, so there were no restore points saved.



I would really appreciate any advice!! I kept my games and my notes for school on my D drive so I would really appreciate any help in getting it back.

• Type Command prompt in the search bar.
• Type-in the following command:
  
  attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
• Press Enter to execute the command.

If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.

You can follow the steps below to start with the process:

• Click on the File Explorer.
• Select This PC.
• Right-click on your D drive, then click on Format.
• Follow the on-screen process to finish formatting the partition.

• Have you used any third party software to manage Disk partition?
• Did you format the drive?
• What is the make and model of your computer?

I suggest you to check for the drive in Disk Management
and see if it appears there. Follow the steps:

• Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
• Press Windows + R key and type
  diskmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
• See if the drive D: appears.
  

Also run the hardware and troubleshooter
and check if it helps.
