    Howdy folks,

I'm running Windows 10 on an Alienware 15, about 4-5 years old I'd say. I received this laptop on warranty as a replacement for an older one which had standard hardware malfunctions, but could not be replicated when it finally broke down. They had installed 2 hard drives, a C and D drive- the C being very small, and the D which I partitioned to store all of my files and other essential functions. I've been using it happily and with no issue since then.

Today, I experienced a system error you know, the one with the smiley face, and when my laptop rebooted, the D: drive was nowhere in sight. Since I have all my libraries and my desktop apparently saved to it, many of my essential functions are also difficult to access. The files, I am not too concerned about- I have them backed up to an online storage system- and I do have a few months' old system image backup on an external hard drive.

What is baffling me, and what I have no experience with, is the fact that the drive just does not appear to exist. Using the disk management tool, I am unable to locate it at all, and BIOS similarly seems to ignore it in all of its tests. Could the drive itself have broken down? What could have changed during the crash? Please forgive me for my ignorance, but I am at a complete loss here and have no idea how to proceed.

If anyone has any advice they can offer, I would be so so grateful to talk this through with someone. Thank you so much in advance.

    :)

  2. URGENT HELP NEEDED! HDD suddenly became blank!

    Hey there, @Shamonto Hasan Easha!

I'd try re-plugging the hard drive and checking if the cable is damaged. I'd also suggest to try plugging the drive in another computer and see if it gets recognized properly there. Is it a IDE or SATA drive you're using?
If the drive is unallocated, this means that the partition has been lost after the power went down.
Check out this thread for more ideas on how to solve the issue. There are some detailed steps there that might be useful for you:

    Hope this helped.

All data from Drive D:/ disappeared or is not recognized

    Hello everyone

I am using a ASUS ROG laptop with two drives: a SSD "C:/" called "OS" and a HDD "D:/" called DATA.

After uninstalling 4 or 5 games from my laptop (properly, using the Applications list to uninstall), all my games, music, pictures, etc stored on drive D (DATA) suddenly looked to have disappeared. Steam is still working but all games show as uninstalled, Origin isn't even working at all anymore, all my music, videos etc can't be found and played anymore.

When trying to play a mp3 from "recent files", it says that drive D is not available and the file can't be found.

Drive D is still visible and can be opened but it appears almost empty, which shouldn't be the case. I think all my data is still there but can't be seen. I can still see all my Origin and Steam games in the Apllications list. It's like the data is not available or recognized anymore. The laptop runs fine (fast, no weird noises, no system error).

    Any suggestion? Thanks a lot!

    D drive

    Hi,

Based on the details you have provided us, it appears that there might be some corrupted contents on the said partition. We can also consider that this is caused by a virus.

For us to check if a certain virus is hiding your files, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Type Command prompt in the search bar.
    • Type-in the following command:

      attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
    • Press Enter to execute the command.

If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.

You can follow the steps below to start with the process:

    • Click on the File Explorer.
    • Select This PC.
    • Right-click on your D drive, then click on Format.
    • Follow the on-screen process to finish formatting the partition.

Let us know how it goes so that we can further assist you.
