    So a little while ago one of my external drives started to not work a Samsung 970 Evo Plus, so I just bought a new drive and decided that was the end of that. But now I want to get it working again so I can get another terabyte of storage. Everytime I connect the external drive Windows Explorer becomes unresponsive and I cannot access the drive. One thing that may affect the issue is the fact that I technically have two D:\ drives. The new one which is working flawlessly, and this old one. Also, after connecting the external drive for about one minute the "USB device malfunctions" and Device

    I ran into this error - A device which does not exist was specified - while trying to access an SSD from Windows console (running a directory listing). I believe the sequence of events leading up to it was the SSD wasunplugged and replugged in after which I reran the listing from a console window already open on the drive.

    The solution seemed to be to navigate to a different drive and back again (in console) and then the listing ran fine without throwing the error.

    Problem solved (for me at least). But I wanted to ask this question so that others could discover a possible solution. I found only one other reference to this error (*) and the thread had been closed.

    * correction: there are many references to this error - I only found a single result because I mistyped a plural: A devices which does not exist was specified

    HI,

    Yester 15-4-2020 I download and install this version "2020-04 Cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903 for x64-based system (KB4549951)".

    Today 16-04-2020 I received a pop-up window (A device which does not exist was specified) while trying to open E: or D: but C: is working fine. After the restart, my pc both E: and D: are gone from my Devices and Drivers.
