Windows 10: D:\ SSD Sata Hard Drive not working on WIndows 10 - Error 0x800701B1: A

Today I booted up my computer and I was trying to play a game on Steam but it wouldn't update any of the files on it. So I tried to uninstall and it refused to remove the game from the hard drive. I go to the file's location on my D:\ drive and I keep getting that error. Stating that A device in reference does not exist... despite the fact that I just navigated to it, so clearly the D:\ drive does exist. I go to try to change permissions and it says I have full control, but when I try to make it read only the drive says I lack the permissions to change files on this drive. I get the error code

Switching from SATA SSD to M.2 SSD?

Just built a new PC for the company I work for. It has two hard drives, a SATA SSD and an M.2 SSD. They have an IT company who is in charge of installing windows and network setup and the guy installed Windows 10 to the SATA instead of the M.2. I tried to switch this using System Image Recovery but it did not work and now the M.2 is allocated as the D drive. Is there any way to switch this over or am I now stuck with this configuration?

 

M.2 or SATA SSD Drives not registering as a hard drive [FIXES]

This is more a tutorial than a question. It would also be beneficial to note on this page. I personally had to work this one out as many articles across the web have been far from helpful. If you are having an internal SSD installed and Windows is not reflecting it, then here's a few things to try:

Method 1: Tell Windows to treat the port as internal

1. Press "Win+R" to open the Run Dialog
   
2. Type "devmgmt.msc" and press Enter
   
3. Under Disk Drives, identify the M.2 or SATA device you'd like the inbox driver to be considered as internal. Right-click and select "Properties" for the device
   
4. Find the property marked "Location" and note down the Bus Number.
   
5. Press start and search "CMD". Click "Run as Administrator"
   
6. Type the following based on your version of Windows followed by pressing Enter. Where "X" corresponds to the Bus Number found in step 4.
   
   1. Windows 7: reg.exe add “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci\Controller0\ChannelX\” /f /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
      
   2. Windows 8 and later: reg.exe add “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\Parameters\Device” /f /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_MULTI_SZ /d x
      
7. Restart your computer.
   

Method 2: Ensure drive is partitioned

1. Open Computer Management by pressing Start and searching "Control Panel". Then, while in the Control Panel, navigate to System and Security > Administrative Tools and double-click Computer Manager.
   
2. In the pane on the left, click Disk Management located under Storage.
   
   1. You might get a dialog about a unpartitioned drive. Click Okay.
      
3. In the center pane, near the bottom, You will see a list of Disks. If one has a black bar and says "Unallocated" or similar, you will need to partition the drive:
   
4. Right-click in the white box where the drive is marked Unallocated and select "New Simple Volume".
   
5. In the Wizard, click Next. You can also hit Next on volume size if it's already filled in or enter a custom value to shrink the size of the partition.
   
6. Now you can either accept the default drive letter or choose it from the dropdown to identify the drive. Once done, click next.
   
7. In Format Partition, simply click Next, followed by Finish. Your drive should now be shown in the File Explorer.
   

IF you know another method to fix this issue, comment. These 2 usually can fix most issues related to the drives being classified as a removable device. Other troubleshooting steps can include ensuring the drive is connected correctly and, in terms of SATA, if it's powered. Method 2 worked for me and I wanted to share in case anyone else has an issue. Additional information about drive partitioning can be found here.

 

SSD Detected - Secondary Drive (Hard drive) is not

Ever since doing a fresh install of Windows 10, in "This PC", my secondary hard drive is not in the list. I have already tried right clicking "This PC" and clicking Manage -> Disk Management, but there is nothing there except my SSD with Windows 10 installed.

I have tried changing SATA cables, SATA ports, but it still does not appear in This PC. I have also tried installing my hard drive on a another computer to see if the files were corrupted. They were not, all files were still the same before the installation
of Windows 10. I did not leave the hard drive plugged in during the installation.

In the BIOS, my computer recognizes both my SSD and my hard drive, but in This PC, it's still missing.

Anything else I can do? Thank you!
