Windows 10: DAC, AMP and headphones not working from windows 10

Hi there,


I recently brought a windows XPS 15 2020 I around the same time brought some audio equipment

I have a Schiit Modi 3 DAC and a Magni 3 Amplifier with a pair of beyerdynamic DT1990 headphones


I have the amp and the dac connected by RAS cables and I have the DAC connected to my laptop via a USB-C \Micro B cable


everything is new yet when I try to play music from either the internet youtube or via itunes no sound at all comes out of the headphones, the laptop appears to recognise the DAC but nothing happens


I can plug the headphones directly into the headphone jack and they work but I need to get the sound going out to the DAC and amp


Can you advise what could be a cause and any solutions as I do not understand what windows is doing to stop the sound coming out the headphones

Windows 10 problem with USB DAC

I have a USB DAC (digital-to-analog converter) that allows me to play music through my speakers.

It has worked fine for a long while but recently it has started to abruptly stop working randomly (over 10 times per day).

I can get it to work again if I:

• Unplug the DAC from usb and immediately replug it in.
• Disable and them immediately enable the device in the windows "playback devices" window.

I have tried:

• Uninstalling and reinstalling Nvidia high definition sound drivers
• Disable USB selective suspend setting (this is a PC not a laptop).
• Troubleshoot sound problems

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is plug and play and I have never installed drivers for it.

 

Use Windows Phone 7 with an external DAC/headphone amp

I know a number of audio nuts (I count myself among them). Unlike me, they use iPhones, connect the iPhone to a small, portable external unit that includes a USB DAC and headphone amp. Their headphones are then plugged into the external unit.

I currently use an external unit (USB DAC/headphone amp) with my laptop: Laptop USB out --> external USB DAC/headphone amp --> headphones. This bypasses the DAC built into the sound card of the laptop and dramtically improves sound quality.

Question: can I use an external USB DAC/headphone amp with the Windows Phone 7 using the micro USB out on the bottom of the phone to a mini USB in of my external unit? I am assuming using the 1/8" jack at the bottom of the phone next to the micro USB out
would not bypass the internal.

Headphones not working.

Do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

• What is the make and model of your device?
• What are the troubleshooting steps you have tried to resolve the issue?
• How have you connected the headphones to your device?
• Were you able to see if the headphones detected on your computer?

As a work around, try the below and update us the status of this issue:

• I suggest you to connect the headphones to different device and check if the headphone is working fine. This will help us to detect if the issue is with headphone.
• If headphones are working fine on other devices, try to connect the headphones to different ports on the PC in the question and check if it is working fine. This will help us to know if the issue is with ports.

I recommend you to install all the pending updates on your device and check if it helps.

Steps:

• Connect to the internet.
• Press Windows key and type updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Windows Updates, click on Check for updates.
• Try to install the updates being shown.
