Daily BSODs and failed Windows Memory DIagnostic

    Specs:

    Windows 10 Pro 1809

    AsRock 970 Pro 3

    AMD FX8120

    NVIDIA GTX 560Ti

8GB DDR3 1600 RAM all voltages and timings set correctly

I have been dealing with a BSOD SYNTHETIC_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT 1ca issue for quite a while now. It started in November of last year, but has started happening more often, almost daily for the past 2 weeks.

I have updated/removed drivers, analyzed dump files, uninstalled random utilities, but no luck. I tried driver verifier, and that just caused an instant BSOD.

Also, when running a Windows Memory Diagnostic, it instantly before 1% flashes that "Hardware problems were detected." I have tested both RAM modules together, individually, in different slots, and even a different set of known working RAM, and it always throws this error. However, when running memtest86+, I get no errors whatsoever after several hours.

I have always had Hyper V enabled, with a Windows 10 VM that I would use occasionally, but I have been using it more to work from home recently, and that also when this issue started occurring more often. I noticed another post on reddit and some other forums dealing with a similar issue that they suspected had to do with hyper-v and my dumps looked pretty similar. https://www.reddit.com/r/HyperV/comments/djqnhk/encountering_bsods_on_windows_10_hyperv_host/

I do have a copy of the full dump from my most recent BSOD, but it is 8GB in size, so not sure how to upload it. I have the minidump as well.

    Any help would be appreciated!

  2. Memory diagnostic test results not found

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

This is very unusual that you are unable to find the results for Memory Diagnostic test.

Usually, when the memory diagnostic is complete the results will be stored under Event Viewer. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below to access Event Viewer logs for Memory Diagnostic.

    1. Press Windows key + R. This will open
Run. Alternatively, you can go to Start and search for Run.
    2. In Run dialog box, type eventvwr and hit enter.
    3. Now expand Windows Logs and click on
      System.

You can use the filter or the find option in Event Viewer to check for specific logs. You can try the steps mentioned below to filter memory diagnostic results in Event Viewer.

    1. Right click on System and click on
      Find.
    2. Now type Memory Diagnostic results and click on
      Find Next

This should pull up the results for Memory Diagnostic that you have ran.

Let us know if there are any concerns, we will certainly assist you further.

  3. Daily "DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER" BSODs on Windows 10

    Hi,

If the suggested solution was to intermediate for you. We can suggest another way of trying to solve the issue.

First suggestion is do a BIOS/UEFI firmware update. The purpose of this procedure is to improve the discoverability of important system firmware updates for end users. Kindly visit your PC manufacturer for more information if an update is available, and instructions
    on how to update BIOS.

Second suggestion is to update all the device drivers by downloading them directly from the manufacturer's website.

Third suggestion is to run Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool to check if the operating system has memory problems. Please check this
article and follow the detailed instructions provided
on the article. Please take note that the steps provided are for Technical preview but it is applicable on this situation.

Fourth suggestion is to run the Driver Verifier to search for the driver that's causing the BSOD or Blue Screen of Death error. Please check this
