Windows 10: DAT file concerns

Just now, I deleted a lot of temp files. I was going really fast and I ended up deleting some DAT files. I read about these just now and I learnt that they contained critical about programs used to create specific files. I also read that DAT files can have Windows registry. Like stuff for signing in. I'm scared that I might have messed up when I was only wanting to get rid of temporary files. Please respond.

I don't know if will help, but I noticed in a thread someone (@chefsuccess.com) mentioned, that, you need to use the restore to import the file.

I don't use the software, so, I have no idea on the steps/procedure.

Associate .dat files to NotePad

Hi Rick

Right click a dat file, choose 'Open With' - Choose Another App

Important - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open dat . . .'

If Notepad is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Again if Notepad is not in the list, at the bottom, click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to find the Notepad application in C:\Windows\System32

In your post #16 the 2nd pic is showing an "Unsupported Audio" message.
That suggests to me that your .dat files may be video files.
The zip file you uploaded further suggests they are segments from a video file.
SM player plays the files with a message they were " Created with Nero"
