    Data missing after crash

I have had a few crashes on my Windows 10 machine HP Zbook 15G2. I thought they might be related to heat. Even though the machine didn't feel crazy hot, the computer is a bit older about 4.5 years, I was running a lot of programs at the time, and the computer allowed itself to be turned back on only after a few minutes, which I think I have seen before in heat-related shutdowns.

However, during reboot after one of the crashes, there was a message during the Windows startup screen that one of my platter hard drives a non-system drive used to store a lot of my documents was being "repaired for errors" or something like this I should have written down the exact message but I didn't. It took a few minutes, the computer and hard drive booted up, and I looked around and didn't see anything particularly amiss with the data. Even so, I started transferring all the documents to an external hard drive and then a new laptop, which I had bought recently but hadn't taken the time to set up yet.

However, after transferring the files to the new computer, I opened up some .docx files which were being worked on around the time of the crashes and found them just "empty." The files weren't missing, they just had zero text in them. I know that couldn't be right, because some of these files had been emailed to a colleagued, and I managed to recover some of the files by getting them off my email server. These emailed documents had text in them and appeared normal. As to the files which I know for a fact were "emptied," they might all have been open at the time of the crashes they were documents which were being worked on AROUND that time, though of course it is hard to remember exactly which files were open and I can't be certain. I didn't discover the data loss until several days later.

In any case, this data loss has made me worry about the integrity of basically every file on the drive. I have backups of all my important documents from this hard drive dating from about one month ago, but of course some work has been done since then, so I am debating whether to use the old backup rather than the current one. I would lose some work, but in some ways I would feel more secure because this backup was from a time before my system or hard drive apparently started wiping the contents of .docx files. On the other hand, I wonder if even THOSE files could be corrupted somehow, for example if the hard drive started going bad. This brings up the question of how far back to go. There's really nothing like a bit of data loss to set your paranoia on edge, like every file on your computer could just be eaten out from the inside without warning.

Does anyone have any insight on this? How can contents of a file be wiped during a sudden shutdown, without deleting the file itself? Could any file on the hard drive be affected, or is it probably only the files I had open at the time of the shutdown?

Also, can you think of any good and time-efficient ways to investigate whether older backups are good quality? Maybe use a file duplicate checker or something like this?

    Thanks

    :)

QuickBooks crash while opening data file

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

As you have mentioned that after Windows and QuickBooks update whenever you open a data file in QuickBooks, it crashes. We would like to know if any other programs are crashing apart from QuickBooks.

I suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

    Method 1: Repair QuickBooks

I suggest you to try repairing QuickBooks and then open data file in it. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, to open
      Run
      dialog box.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl and click on
      OK
      .
    3. Look for QuickBooks application from the list, right click on it and select
      Repair.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.

If repairing QuickBooks didn’t fix the issue, please refer Method 2.

Method 2: Open Sample data file

You can try opening a Sample data file in QuickBooks and check if QuickBooks crash. If QuickBooks didn’t crash while opening Sample data file, I suspect that the data file that you are trying to open is causing the crash. In this case, I suggest you
    to contact the
    QuickBooks support
    team.

    all games crash!

    I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
    What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.
