    I used to work in an IT support role but I've never done much with Windows 10/11 since leaving a support role so I'm aware there are holes in my knowledge and I might be missing something obvious.I'm trying to do someone a favour which is turning into a bigger favour all the while. A friend of a friend found they were unable to boot into Windows. Of course, they didn't backup their data. When I worked in IT I always made sure the integrity of the data was secure before attempting repairs. I've removed the hard drive and can read it using an enclosure on another computer.The computer in questio

    [WPSL] Backup app data

    Hi All,

    I have a Windows Phone 8.1 Silverlight app in the store for quite some time now. I recently noticed that the automatic backup for my app doesn't work.

    • The app is listed in my phones (W10M) backup options and automatic backup is enabled
    • Disable automatic backup is not checked in the WMAppManifest.xml
    • Setting "Windows can include this product’s data in automatic backups to OneDrive." in the Dev Center is checked
    • All of the apps data is written to Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.Current.LocalFolder
    • Using ISETool I'm able to get all the data
    What am I possibly missing here?

    OneDrive backup missing most data

    The available device backups are listed after login at

    OneDrive

    Another hard reset of the phone is required to be able to select and apply a specific backup, but it does not resolve the missing texts issue.

    OneDrive backup missing most data

    The system backup is a list of installed apps and the start screen layout, basically.

    It is up to the developers whether their app's data are included in the system backup.

    Passwords for accounts, WiFi etc. are not backed up.

    Text messages are synchronised with the primary Microsoft account, along with contacts, calendars and email. Thousands of texts may take more than 24 hours to complete and is known to sync in seemingly random order. Others have reported texts missing after
    doing several 'hard' resets before it had finished sync'ing.

    Much more can go wrong if you are on an Insider build?
