Windows 10: Data Recovery from 20+ Year Hard Drive - Help Needed

Hi,


I'm trying to recover a file from a Western Digital Caviar 21200 hard drive that I used in a desktop at university. I sent the hard drive to a data recovery team and they have provided me evidence to show that the file I want is available, but then they also wanted to charge me >£500 for the privilege of recovering the file! So I now have my hard drive back and am attempting to recover it myself.


I have purchased a USB Hard Drive Docking Station and when I connect the hard drive I can see it in Device Manager as one of my Disk Drives. Unfortunately though I'm unable to see it in either Windows Explorer, Disk Management of via DISKPART in the command prompt. I should also add that when I view the properties of the hard drive via Device Manager it doesn't provide me with any details re: how much data is on there.


I've spent hours searching online trying to find some advice specific to my scenario but with no luck. So I'm hoping the Microsoft Community are able to help!

Hard Drive Data Recovery

got a laptop pata hard drive that makes a slight constant clicking noise. hard drive is more than likely dead/dying right... i can see that partitions of the hard drive in disk management and i can see the partitions in my computer but i can't get to any of the data.

any suggestions?

 

Data Recovery for Dead Hard drive heads

Hi TP,

I'm an australian who is seeking some advice regarding getting the data off my now non functioning 1TB WD Green Drive. The drive clicks and so it's been disconnected and from what I've read it's the heads or the motor definitely something mechanically wrong.

I was wondering who you guys would suggest? I've seen some prices for some data recovery agents in the US and they are a lot cheaper then Australia. I've been quoted up to $3400AUD where as the US data recovery places are half the price...

I'm all up for advice and recommendations from users dealing with data recovery companies. Also I'm not in any major hurry to get the drive repaired, i just want to get my data back.

The drive worked for 24 hours then i restarted my rig and the drive started clicking.. No idea what went wrong.
