    Data recovery


    Hi,

    I am helping a family member set up a new laptop. Both the new and old laptop ran Windows 10. The old laptop’s charging port failed, and most data was backed up before the battery died.

    She is missing literally one folder- so I pulled the hard drive from the laptop and connected it to my PC. However, the user account was password protected.

    I know there are tools to crack and/or reset the Windows password, but is this necessary when I know the account password? Is there another way to get around this or somehow input the password with the drive hooked to my PC? Again, we are not able to boot the old laptop to remove the password.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Data Recovery for Mac (OSX Capitan) ?

    Anybody knows of a good data recovery software for mac? Preferably free?

    I use Active@ Data Recovery for Windows, but honestly no idea what to use for Mac OSX.

    Any suggestions?

    I'm giving Recuva a shot. Mussels posted a thread about data recovery and that was on the top of the list. I'll give that one a shot next if Reuva doesn't cut it. Thanks Wizz.

    It'd be nice if this thread was unlocked, cleaned up, and sticky'd in this section. Just saying. *Wink Data recovery ;)
